I have the same Boker "Trapper" and a Barlow in the same series. I got them from SMKW 6 to 8 months ago also for $75. At that price they are a steel but at normal price I agree with you 💯. I tried to figure out what Boker is doing a while back. The best that I could tell is that if it says Solingen on the blade and shield it's a German made knife. If it says Made In Germany and/or has a shield that says Germany it is put together in Germany from Chinese sourced parts.

Thanks, I think the bigger issue is value. The import tax is $6.50 . A $180 is a big jump from $106. Even with higher wages I believe they produced these knives for less than Case trappers. They use more automation and less parts.

Good looking knife!...Single bladed Trappers got me back into carrying “Traditional” knives again. Looks like a modern spin on a traditional from its manufacturing, materials and blade finish. To me, the blade finish looks nice, but it looks out of place on that knife.

I like the Copper and Micarta look...I just don’t care for the stone washed blade...which I think I will refinish. Yes, I ordered one, at the sale price, I think it’s a Okay deal...

I think I paid about the same for the Case SMKW exclusive 10154. The green canvas micarta with brass bolster and copper liners and shield. Think it’s part of Cases “Pocket Worn” series.

Beautiful knife! To me it seems to be a collector knife, not a user. Main pin seems to be same material as a bolster, much weaker than steel. That’s why I love old Remington knives: strong snap and no blade wobble after 100 years of use, thanks to steel bolsters and pins

Boker has a notorious recorded for hiding the origin of their knives. There different recipes of O-1 tool steel, some made slightly different from others for making tooling. If small details matter to you, makes me hesitant to pay more for a Boker. I have never known Case Slip joint knives to not be stamped or marked USA. Maybe some materials on their knives came from other areas in the world but that is true for all old and new Case knives. I cannot say that about their new knives because I have none. You bought a nice looking Boker knife for a low price; I think it is worth the money you paid. However, I agree that paying the regular price was more than I would pay. 👍🤔

I agree. It's a value thing to me. I can't really even bash Boker. Who is pricing these knives. Is it Boker or the dealers who put a $180 price tag on them? It's not only Solingen knives either. I find their Chinese knives cost more than competition but are lower quality. Anyway, Boker is just a burr on my butt.😠😄😂

I like the stockman better of the ones they have on sale but I'm not buying it. I would buy the Barlow looking one but it's not on sale . 😢🤷🏻‍♂️😄

Blame tariffs for the price. They're substantially cheaper in Europe. Solingen knives are made in Solingen. It's the Tree brands with the "Germany" shield that are controversial. I find the traditionalist argument silly. Beyond chipped obsidian strapped to a stick it's all modern.

Good point. If you assume the knife was valued at $100 USD, the import tax would add $6.50 to the price of the knife .
