Download Devil May Cry: Peak Of Combat Today! app.adjust.com/181gn40k_18igsm40 What's a Clone or Rip-Off you think I should check out in the future? Lemme know here! Also HAPPY NEW YEAR! I'm gonna be moving in a matter of weeks. I've been making videos in the same place since a month into Covid and it's gonna feel weird to branch out and have a change of scenery, but I'm ready! There's a lot of fun stuff on the horizon, both in videos and my personal life and hopefully that'll come through in what we make! Big Thanks to both Portly and Joshy for assistance editing this one, they do great work on a whim for my slow-ass and I can't thank them enough. I'll catch y'all in a few weeks with another Deep Dive! Gotta do the NOW Square-Enix Quadrilogy!!

I feel like the term "clone" gets used too negatively nowadays, cause some clones are more fun than their original counterparts. "Rip-off" is still accurate for some of the lazier and borderline copyright-infringing attempts, admittedly. And some clones aren't even known for being clones; like what Minecraft is to Blockland or Infiniminer, or Fortnite is to PUBG, or Angry Bird is to Crush the Castle.

The Ant Bully Game is just a Zelda Clone, you got Z-targeting new abilites and tools that let you progess and solve puzzles and the part thar actually made it click was it doesnt have a jump button, you have to jump off a ledge to do a jump.

The sad thing about the Indiana Jones thing being considered a clone, even if positively associated, it's partly a contributing factor to what happened to Lucasarts dropping their version of Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings. Reportedly, one of the biggest demoralizers to the team involved was the announcement and release of Uncharted. Not in the sense they hated it, but in the sense that they instantly knew that they had been shown up before they could deliver. When you think about how everyone associates their past try to make a 3D game with the character was commonly and inevitably compared to Tomb Raider back in the day, they knew it would be an uphill battle for them, qnd considering the development troubles they dealt with, they decided to drop the project for the HD version, and all that was left were the versions for older systems and handhelds that they had already outsourced.

The Digimon games have shockingly been picking up the slack as of late. Digmon Story: Cyber Sleuth games are pretty great. I recommend getting the Switch or PC versions, as they bundle up both games & all the DLC. Digimon Survive & World: Next Order are also good, but they're not traditional mon games. The former is a visual novel with gameplay similar to Fire Emblem, while the latter is a throwback to the V-pets & first DW game. Just be warned, the translations & localisations for the games are rather spotty.

I was on a focus group/play test for road rage. I voted for a different title, i don’t remember what, but I thought road rage sounded too basic. There were like 3 or 4 other options to vote for, and road rage was the bottom pick for me. As we were playing, several others commented that it was just like crazy taxi… I’d only ever heard of the game, so I couldn’t really comment on that at the time. I remember that my friend who was working at radical at the time (my ‘in’ Yo get in this focus group) was hyped that Simpsons cast were in the office, but I don’t think he had much face time with any of them, since he was assigned to other projects. My nephew lovvved the game when he was little, and didn’t care if I’d been involved at all. Well… it was his fav game of MINE, since I didn’t have any other car games. D’oh indeed.

I'm sorry, but I hate when people call other monster tamers "pOkEmOn RiPoFfS!" It does them such a disservice, especially when they try to do their own thing just with a similar formula. A "ripoff" implies that the game is either bad, soulless, and/or made just to make a quick buck. Things like Nexomon and Coromon *are not that.* Monster tamers are a whole genre of their own, you wouldn't call Sonic a Mario ripoff cause they're both platformers, right? At least you aren't calling stuff like SMT or Monster Sanctuary Pokémon ripoffs though, cause I've seen people unironically say that and it's as dumb as it sounds. Really, it's just how people throw around the term "ripoff" so casually without stopping to think what that actually means that annoys me. Good video otherwise, that's just always bothered me.

Man I loved the reboot of medal of honor and especially the sequel war fighter. The multiplayer was top notch with some really good well balanced maps.

Man, austin, you are the last remaining bastion of feel-good, yet interesting, youtube. I grew up on normalboots and sbfp videos; one a classroom, one a home. Whenever the real-world counterparts were painful or frightening, i would watch those videos and remember i belonged somewhere. But it's been a long time since those kinds of videos were the norm, and I kinda just moved on with everybody else. Sbfp are still like big, goofy brothers to me, but they aren't "come over for dumb games and a laugh" vibes like they were. And considering a lot of normalboots have reached "creepy uncle" status, the feeling with those videos has faded too. For the last few years, I've found myself just... rewatching the things that used to feel good, hoping to feel at least a tenth of that comfort again, like an old man looking at faded photos of his past. But your videos, they make me feel like that again. I get excited when I've played the game you're talking about, and even more excited when I haven't. I laugh my ass off when I know exactly what points will be made about some game I rented for a week and couldn't beat. I feel like a kid again. So thanks man, you're killing it. You don't just make dumb videos on the internet. You make dumb videos that people enjoy and feel safe watching. You provide an actual service to your viewers, not the other way around.

Austin, baby, my guy. Mix your audio down dude. I have to lower the vol three quarters of the way because the levels are in the red.

Speaking of Overlord. If anyone else likes that kind of thing there's a pretty good indie game called The Unliving on steam that does that idea.

I’m not saying six-year-old me played a lot of downhill domination, but I will say the soundbite “busting big air” has been stuck in my head for 20 years

I thought I was the only one who knew about Krion Conquest, I didn't even grow up with the NES, but I randomly play it once on an emulator and loved it for what it was.

Uhyeah has a real good video on Enchanted Portals that goes deep into every weird part of it. There's DEPTH into how strange and terrible it is.

The Infernal Machine!!! That game one of my first non-kid game on the PC when I was very young. I hadn't seen the movies, couldnt read English and the game was way way to hard for me, I think I never got passed the second stage. But I loved it. I remember the sound of the whip and that you could write on the walls with a crayon, and use your lighter. That was enough for 8 year old me back in the day. Still think about this game when I hear the Indy music instead of the movies.

I was kinda hoping to see "Freedom Planet" featured in this video because it's an awesome and enjoyable game that hardly anyone talks about for some reason, especially with the long-awaited sequel that will be coming out on home consoles sometime in April.

One that I definitely think deserves a bit more love and attention is Penko Park. It's basically a Pokemon Snap clone where you take photos of weird monsters in an abandoned theme park.

I reviewed both Aggressive Inline and Downhill Domination back in the day. And both are great. In fact, to me Aggressive Inline is an all-timer. The levels are huge, which have lots of world-morphing goals. Also, you can stack up objectives - unlike Tony Hawk 4. Downhill Domination has an unlockable, rideable sheep.

You forgot one bizarre obscure clone: Nicktoons: Freeze Frame Frenzy on the GBA is a ripoff of the Japan-only game "Gekibo: Gekisha Boy" for the Turbografx-16 I guess you can get away with stealing the gameplay of a franchise literally no one knows

One (two, actually) clone i never see mentioned is the Bugs Bunny Lost in Time (and its sequel with Tasmanian Devil that i forget the name of), a very blatant Banjo Kazooie clone, and it was AWESOME. It was creative, funny, used source material extremely well... But it's a licensed game, so to the depths of the copyright purgatory with it, i guess =_=
