I'm glad the writers are giving the controlling-interest explosions time to breathe a little in this episode, with Brooke's celebration and Stephanie slumped on the Casa Forrester stairs, taking stock. For a show that usually hangs onto a secret for 18 months to irritate the heck out of the viewers, the BeLieF saga sure delivered back-to-back blows and intrigue for several months. In quick succession. For once, the viewers weren't made to wait for anything.

*BROOKE & **-SALLY-** SHEILA* In episode 1588, I wrote about how Brooke was never going to team up with Sally because in the underlying class themes of the show, it doesn't serve Brooke's interests to be seen with someone "low class" like Sally. But teaming up with Sheila makes a lot more sense for Brooke. There's a neat parallel between the two options here -- both "Sally" and "Sheila" are names start with S and contain two syllables (SA - LLY SPEC - TRA / SHEI - LA CAR - TER) and all three women are hated by Stephanie so on the revenge score alone, Brooke & Sally vs Brooke & Sheila are the same. But Sheila doesn’t have the reputational taint of “low class” like Sally does and her marriage to Eric makes her valuable to Brooke as still a member of the family Brooke wants to be accepted into. Indeed Sheila offers the major benefit of working with Sally (sticking it to Stephanie) without the drawbacks (association with cheapness and gaudiness). Even the way Sheila dresses now -- high fashion, glammed up - highlights this difference. And as I also mentioned before, Sally can't deliver the one thing Brooke wants most (Ridge). He prefers to marry these Princess types and Brooke wants to use her new status and power and wealth as CEO to remake herself into that image. Associating with Sally would be counterproductive, it would only make her seem like a cheap peasant in Ridge's eyes. Meanwhile Sheila is already working to get Ridge back in Brooke's orbit -- telling him here to have an affair with Brooke and eventually dislodging Connor from Brooke's life and thus freeing her up for Ridge again.
