*Ridge Chooses Taylor: An Act of Pure Love* Ridge has always been capable of loving two women at once and who he ends up marrying is just a matter of choice. He loved both Brooke and Taylor and chose Taylor. But it’s certainly true that the show made that trajectory complicated in order to create drama and balance out the love triangle, and the path to Ridge and Taylor’s wedding gave Brooke fans good reason to think his choice was not based in pure love. After all there was strong coercion (he really did want to save Eric and Brooke’s marriage) and Ridge was missing crucial information (he didn’t know Brooke was having his child). So it’s not unreasonable to look at that and conclude that Ridge would’ve made a different choice if the circumstances were different. And so what the show has done here is provide different circumstances. Now that Eric has married Sheila and the paternity test says Ridge is Bridget’s father, the slate has essentially been wiped clean and Ridge is given another chance to make a free choice. There’s no coercion and no missing information anymore. Indeed if anything, the coercion is now _in Brooke’s favor._ She is constantly insisting that Bridget needs a married mother and father, and the need for her to sign the Belief waiver could’ve compelled Ridge to tell her what she wanted to hear. In fact had Ridge chosen Brooke, the viewer sentiment could’ve flipped with Taylor fans now reasonably concluding that Ridge didn’t really love Brooke and that he only chose her because of Bridget and Belief. But we don’t need to indulge that counterfactual. In the end Ridge chose Taylor not because he was coerced or lacked information but because he loves her. Ridge is giving up a lot and risking a lot to be with Taylor because he loves her. There’s really no way to look at his decision at this moment in the show’s history and conclude anything else. Ridge and Taylor haven’t been married long and they don’t have children yet - it would’ve been easy to dissolve the marriage, and Taylor even made it easier for him by letting him off the hook, by putting the decision to him and allowing him to make a free choice. It was an act of pure love on Taylor’s part that she gave him that freedom, and it was an act of pure love on Ridge’s part that he chose her anyway. *(NB: As always, I am only focusing here on the show up to this point and on Bill Bell's conception of these characters. I am NOT meaning anything that happened years later when this was a completely different show with Brad Bell at the helm.)*

Brooke suggested talking about it atter dinner, but jumped ahead to her primary motive, and then ordered Ridge to leave. She has no one to blame but herself. Ridge secured what he needed to get; that was HIS motive, not whatever was Brooke's, but I do believe he had a good heart about it from day 1. He ALONE was the best person to reason and negotiate with Brooke rather than this show or farce put on by Stephanie et al... walking on eggshells the whole time, wining and dining, sucking up. This was not a victory, as Ridge sees it, in my opinion.

This episode shows how vulnerable and sincere Taylor is, she planted the reality that Ridge is leaving her in mind to allow that reality to exist her in mind as a coping mechanism in case he did dump her. They deserve all they get. Just despicable. Stephanie always talked about Brooke being a gold digger, but it is the Forrester’s who are greedy and manipulative. Ridge should be utterly ashamed at how he got Brooke to sign those papers while she looked up at him to say she trusted in him. Stephanie uses Brooke whenever she needs something. She encouraged her to go after Ridge so she could have Eric back, even writing a fake letter to herself from Eric. Then she turned on the phony compassion when she realized Forrester didn’t have the proper contracts signed and Brooke could end up with Belief. Now she is running over there to kick her once again when she is down. She loves to see her in misery. She has no compassion. The Forrester’s really are a sorry bunch. Ridge is certainly not worth all the adoration from Brooke or Taylor.

LOL. For months we have Brooke expecting Ridge to leave Taylor and to get back with her and refusing to think that Ridge could love Taylor as much as he loves Brooke. We had Ridge occasionally giving Brooke a reason to hope. Now Ridge would be finally explain his feelings to Brooke - and she doesn't let him and has heard enough (that he is committed to his marriage). Brooke, I am really crossed with you today. 😈 I would have really wanted to hear Ridge's explanation and hear him talking about his his feelings (when Ridge recently even has admitted that he isn't someone who opens up about his feelings that easily). They can change quickly like the wind, but you need to hear what he is saying if you constantly ask him for a decision (again and again).

Brooke underestimated the love between Taylor and Ridge here. And of course Ridge can't clear up the situation since he will always have feelings towards Brooke and doesn't want to hurt her (probably just loves to keep her around, in case...). For a moment he even wanted Brooke to read through the contract before signing but our Logan here was so blinded by love she couldn't care less what the contract was even about.
