She brought her depression on herself.

*BILL BELL'S BELIEF* Even though Bill Bell was no longer Head Writer, he was still a Producer and he clearly crafted the BELIEF storyline a long time ago. And at this point the storyline is playing out with a theme and a storytelling trick he likes. First there is the theme of CHANCE vs DESIGN. Eric is a designer and Stephanie is a storyteller and together they have been manipulating and trying to design the ending of the BELIEF plot and they almost pulled it off when Brooke signed the contract and Ridge chose Taylor. But then Chance intervened when Ridge took the unsigned contract instead, allowing Connor and Brooke to alter the ending. It’s a fascinating development because Brooke has been thwarted by Chance many times in her pursuit of Ridge but here with control of the company on the line, it helped her out. It proves my theory that she was meant to be a character unlucky in love but very lucky in social climbing and that will play out now with Brooke still longing for Ridge but being elevated to a more powerful status as CEO. Secondly the contract mixup allows the show to HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. This is a storytelling trick where Bill Bell arranges the plot in a way so that both outcomes in a crossroad situation can be played out (see my “Race to the Altar” comment in episode 1537 for more on this). What Bill Bell wants is for Brooke to lose Ridge but gain the company so that she has her own power and leverage but she’s still longing for her one true love. That is the sweet spot for long-term drama. But by doing this tricky thing where Brooke signs the contract but Ridge leaves the signed copy with her, Bill Bell gets to show us what it would look like had Brooke lost everything while still continuing on with her takeover of Forrester Creations. This way we get to experience both Stephanie’s gloating and Brooke’s revenge.

Next to the Guiding Light's election story, the BeLief storyline has to be one of the best developed soap plots ever. William J. Bell got his start writing for Guiding Light, where they developed complex characters. No character was all good or all bad.

I do like the character and Kim Zimmer and she was not at fault. It was the production's fault for allowing it, and Reva wasn't my favorite. The ironic thing is that there are kinda only two faced people on both camps. The only difference is that at the moment team Forrester is still mostly united and not that much backstabbing its members (unlike: forged letter, adultery,..) - Stephanie in this episode and in most of the next episode forgets to mention to her two team members, that she has already dropped her mask and went from "you are a part fo the family" to "I have purged you from our lives. You are just Ridge's sex toy". Stephanie almost sent her team member Ridge into enemy territory without warning that she had blown his cover and had rallied Brooke up against him and how he had put his loyalty to team Forrester above any loyalty for the mother of his child. - Eric is currently backstabbing ex-wife number two while smiling at ex-wife number one, the ex-wife that he had betrayed with ex-wife number two, while still keeping secrets from the current wife about all the schemes and the financial situation (and if you know the future twist, Eric is keeping a major secret from his two team members that would change the whole matter) - Ridge had been sent to the enemy camp to get the mother of his firstborn to sign a backdated contract and he fulfilled the mission even when he had felt bad and guilty for betraying that woman's trust, and in the next episode Ridge is supposed to pull that trick with his ex for a second time "act as if it is just a minor technicality and don't go into details about that contract and what it means" (oh wait, team member Forrester matriarch already blew up that possibility)
