It was a small, throwaway moment, but I really enjoyed Macy’s horrified reaction to finding out about Breacon and Hope’s lineage: “Brooke had an affair with her own daughter’s husband, and then she has the nerve to say you’re not fit to know your child?!” FINALLY someone has an appropriate reaction to Breacon! And it made sense that Macy, who has such a caring, protective, mother, would react the way she did.

For the first time in years, someone remembers that Little Eric is actually Becky's son. And that he was supposed to be raised as a Spectra. This underlines the nice plot symmetry going on here - Rick brought Deacon into the child's life to get him _away_ from the Spectra family, and now Deacon will end up marrying Macy, bringing the child _back_ into the Spectra family.

*The new Macy?* As much as I love Macy, I don't quite know what to make of the way she's being written here. She is different. In the restaurant, she was bitter and confrontationaI, and it is quite out of character for her and really breaks her "Good Girl" archetype. It's not that she doesn't have a reason to be upset with Brooke (and she _is_ telling a lot of truths), and it's even understandable that a character who has been through what Macy has been through _would_ be bltter and even desire revenge. It's just not a good look for _this particular_ character - Macy holding grudges for years, or wanting to get back at someone, is simply not something we would expect her to do. She is too compassionate and forgiving (she even became friends with Karen), and also not usually active enough as a driver of plot (the exception being the Anthony storyline where she had no choice but to act in order to defend herself and the man she loved). The only way this sudden change in behavior makes sense is if it is actually a kind of _breakdown_ - Macy almost lost controI and nearly started drinking again, but it seems that she didn't actually overcome those impulses as much as _suppress_ them - and then they just resurface somewhere else (the leader of the AA group said something similar to Deacon just the other day, suggesting that Deacon's need to find a purpose in life was not a way of dealing with his problem but a _distraction_ from the problem). If this is a kind of reaction to Macy losing the family she thought she would have, a "relapse" without actually falling off the wagon, it could still be (nearly) in character. But if this is what the writers are going for, it's not well-articulated enough. And as much as I would like seeing Macy win after what Brooke did to her, I don't want it to happen at the expense of Macy's character. If Macy were to get revenge on Brooke but lose her moraI high ground in the process, that would actually be a _loss._ I understand the fans who root for their character to win no matter how, but I feel differently - I'm not interested in seeing a character I care about win if it means that they are transformed into _another_ character. And being a Good Girl, there is only so much Macy can do in terms of "revenge" _while still being Macy._ Go further than her character archetype allows, and Macy loses even if she wins, because the person triumphing will _no longer be her._ In that case, I'd much rather see her be herself and lose. Writing for the Good Girl character type is a balancing act because she has so many things she _can't_ do without going out of character. But in this case, the (possibly) OOC writing is completely unnecessary. All the writers had to do to keep Macy in character was to wait longer before she discovers Deacon's connection to Brooke, thus ensuring that her motivation for helping Deacon connect with his children is truly idealistic rather than motivated by revenge. Another way to keep Macy in character would be to make the connection clearer between this situation and the Anthony storyline, so that from Macy's perspective she actually _is_ doing the same thing now that she did then, that is, flghting for justice. But I suspect there is quite a simple explanation because there is a very clear pattern in the writing here - that of the destruction of every character who has a vaIid reason not to like Brooke. First it was Taylor (who simply died). Then it was Stephanie (Ridge's paternity). Then it was Bridget (falling in love with Ridge). And now Macy is being made to look like Brooke's antagonist, when it was in fact the other way around. In order for Brooke to look better in a storyline where she is actually in the wrong (keeping Hope away from her father), Macy must be made to look worse, even if it means writing her out of character. And even then it doesn't work, because Macy is actually _right._
@hraslan18 күн бұрын
When was Macy a good girl? She started her marriage by cheating on Thorne. She had an unstable marriage.
@annieo652718 күн бұрын
@@hraslan let's see... she _never once_ went after another woman's man, her only affair was more than a decade ago, she didn't scheme or pIot, she always tried to stop her mother from doing shady things at Spectra, she forgave Karen, she forgave Thorne over and over, she forgave her father, she forgives Darla, she risked her life to get Thorne out of jaiI, she was a loyaI loving daughter and sister, she got Donna a job as a Spectra lead model simply because Donna had found her lost wallet... Macy has been consistently portrayed as a Good Girl archetype. Her sleeping with Jake one time in 1991 doesn't change that.
@sharonstewart488218 күн бұрын
Great analysis Annie! 👏👏👏 I will admit I love seeing Macy (and Taylor) stand up for themselves more so I'm guilty of that fan thing you described. I guess the Good Girl archetype doesn't really appeal to me and I want my faves to show a little more spunk (like Stephanie). That said, you're absolutely right about what Brad is doing to all the characters (and why) and it will be even worse for Taylor when she comes back.

It is always extremely telling that both Ridge and Brooke only talk about their shared history in terms of "what they went through together." As if this is a positive indicator of a well-functioning relationship. It just shows you that they constantly had some kind of problem. In any case, I can't remember a time when they had a relationship that had anywhere near the stability and solidarity that Tridge had.
@TriniT2118 күн бұрын
Ridge and Brooke's relationship was completely one sided, if they would be honest. Brooke wanted to marry Ridge forever, and Ridge never wanted to marry Brooke unless his wives were d e ad. That doesn't sound like they went thru anything together.
@babs484818 күн бұрын
Not only did she mess up his relationships with Caroline and Taylor ( of course he liked it and he thought of her as a victim who needed sympathy and that's his fault) but Bridge has never had romantic SLs. The way Ridge longed for Caroline for example or for Taylor after her first de ath or when he thought she was pregnant with Thorne. He has never loved this way Brooke. Things are going to change, but this writer is not good enough to portray them as a romantic couple.

@FayeIL18 күн бұрын
It’s interesting that while Ridge is clearly being portrayed as rude and boorish in his conversation with Jackie, he’s actually being a reliable narrator *and* providing accurate foreshadowing. He’s flat out telling Jackie that he and Brooke break up periodically, and she uses other guys (even marries and gets pregnant by them!), but they’re only a diversion until he becomes available again. He also tells Jackie that Nick is in “way over his head” (a sea-related metaphor for the captain, perhaps). And he may be arrogant, but he’s right, about all of it. And Nick could have been spared a lot of pain if Jackie had taken him seriously. The truly funny part is that Jackie hears - from the mouth of the man who loves her - that Brooke uses and discards men like they’re H&M sweaters, and rather than being appalled and wanting her son away from that mess, as any normal mother would do, she’s just charmed by Brooke *more* and becomes determined to have her as a daughter in law.
