Steph always makes a valid point. Up to a few episodes ago Eric was taking steph to lunch, and complaining about Sheila. He hasn't had one nice thing to say about Sheila since the day after their marriage. The only reason he's pulling back now, I suspect, is bc he doesn't like to be the one on the receiving end of a divorce (plus I suppose divorce doesn't sound palatable to Eric who most likely does not have a prenup with Sheila).

And in a strange instance of meta storytelling, when Stephanie expresses her dismay at James shifting his focus from Sheila to his own love life, it's almost as if she is transcending her fictional status and speaking _directly to the writers_ as she says "I don't want to be rude, but I don't think there's anything more important than exposing her involvement in the doctor's death". It's almost as if she is looking up at the powers that be and saying, "Hey! You are focusing on the *wrong storyline* here!"

She urges the former to marry Brooke quickly and she implores the latter to divorce Sheila. She tells both men how their storylines should play out and describes the stakes for each of them. It's amazing how accurate she is and how much more clearly she can perceive what's happening even as both men are in the dark. Stephanie is right to warn James about the spark between Brooke & Ridge and she's right about Sheila's involvement in Garvin's death. And the other scenes in this episode (Brooke & Ridge growing closer over Bridget and Sheila plotting to get Eric's inheritance) illustrate and confirm Stephanie's narration! It's as if the plot is unfolding as she is telling it! And because neither James nor Eric really heed her prophecies of doom, Stephanie also remains the Casandra of B&B.

For the VERY FEW times I supported Stephanie. This is one of them. Brooke is even come around slowly to Stephanie's view that Sheila is dangerous. She is not there yet but it will only be a matter of time before Brooke finally sees what Sheila is! Ridge is determined for his own selfish reasons to try and stop the elopement of James and Brooke(in his mind of course).Even to this day,Brooke and Taylor have been switching roles who is first choice and who is second choice in Ridge's mind.

Intriguing question! I DO think the show uses Stephanie's position as a Reliable Narrator to foreshadow and suggest things like Bridget's true paternity. For example when she objected to Ridge giving Bridget the family heirloom/rattle because "Bridget is not in the normal line of birthright." That seemed cruel but on a subtextual level it was Stephanie trying to keep the line of succession "clean" because Bridget is not actually Ridge's first-born.

That's a really interesting question /perspective @Lauren. Might be some of that, but I don't know. I think it might be more her seeing Bridget as an illegitimate child? Later on when Bridget is a bit older we will see more of Steph's interaction with her in a very loving way (esp after finding out about the paternity). For some reason, they just set up the scenes now where Steph and Bridget just aren't in the same scenes together, even when Bridget is at Steph's pool.

Stephanie later shows much more love for her _step-daughter Bridget_ than she ever had for _granddaughter Bridget_ . But even long before the paternity test in 1993, we have Stephanie in 1992 (ep1329) calling Brooke's pregnancy a *family problem* they need to deal with and that Stephanie thinks the baby should be put up for *adoption* - and when Ridge disagrees Stephanie reminds him that it might not even be his child (but his father's) - but Eric then doesn't get asked about his opinion about that matter of adoption. The later writing even has Stephanie in 2000 trying to kill her unwanted grandchild during the Morgan SL (abortion tea) and Morgan's backstory that Stephanie decades ago had convinced her to have an abortion, when Morgan had been a 17 year old model knocked up by Ridge Forrester. The show has Stephanie always only considering these unplanned children to be an unwanted burden for her son (no love for these grandchildren). But often Stephanie's care and love also is a matter of taking control back. She later encourages Eric to get more involved with both of his minor children, at a time pushes Eric to get custody of both children and to cut their contact with Brooke. Stephanie in 2002 is involved with Brooke and the matters of a NON-Forrester baby because Stephanie feels she feels she has to control wrecking ball Brooke and her impact on Bridget and the rest of the family (damage control). In 2007, we have Stephanie encouraging Ridge to file for custody of R.J. and Hope and raging that Brooke is an unfit mother.

I have to SMH about Stephanie's advise. Does she want James to follow in Eric's shoes and they maybe needing to go through another paternity test? Being married didn't protect Eric's relationship with Brooke and didn't spare Eric from getting betrayed. It is much better to learn about the real feelings before taking vows and later going through the awful divorce process. Ridge is Bridget's father (current SL), so James won't be able to cut Ridge out of their lives for good even if he legally is Brooke's husband.

I'm so surprised I finally caught up to the most recent episode and there are no more uploads from 1994 as of now!! :( I'm actually more surprised to see that the channel is uploading 3 episodes a day of 2012 but not from 1994 on?? 2012 is kind of terrible and not exciting in my opinion, apart from SF (Stephanie's exit storyline at this time) but 1994 is so good, thoe 90's were the better years yet the choice being made is to only upload 1/day of the good times and 3 of the mediocre times. I absolutely HATE season 10 where they put Tridge back together leading to the conception of baby Thomas. If Taylor had not of gotten pregnant Ridge would of NEVER married her for a second time.

@@youlamatou I said that Stephanie knows there is a great attraction, the sparks, but nothing more, nothing deep. She loves her son and she knows that Brooke is not his soulmate. Even when she wanted to put them together she was upset and frustrated because she has always despised Brooke. Frankly even Bridge fans noticed that he is terrified to loose her precious "child" now that Taylor is dead. That's all. In my opinion of course.
