*STEPHANIE & SHEILA SAVE THE SHOW* Another well-structured episode with the show's two strongest Storytellers (Stephanie & Sheila) being placed on opposing sides of a major storyline. Stephanie is freaking out about Ridge stopping Brooke's elopement and Sheila is thrilled about it. This is how you keep storylines from feeling islanded. Of course Bill Bell would've done even more to integrate the plot threads by having Sheila try to break up Brooke & James rather than just be a bystander. But still, it's amazing how significantly the show improves simply by having Stephanie and Sheila in the same episode!

Absolutely true! Stephanie and Sheila do make the show better when they are on. Like I said before, the show has two weak links right now - the Jessica storyline, and the Ridge/Brooke/James triangle. The latter can be saved by Stephanie's involvement, but when the show tries to insert Stephanie into Jessica's storyline, it will actually drag Stephanie down.

One of this show's biggest issues is that it doesn't have a viable romantic couple to root for. Ridge and Brooke are meant to be the star-crossed lovers who anchor the show. Yet, they're both narcissists who bring out the worst in each other when they're together. Ridge's behaviour here is, of course, mild compared to what comes in later years. Yesterday, I was looking for clips from the 2006 episodes where he sexually assaulted Brooke whilst she was drugged up on sleeping pills. He justified his actions by stating that no one enjoys sex more than Brooke🫣. Soaps have a bizarre habit of turning rapists into romantic leads. This is probably the worst case of them all because this so-called romantic lead and his love story anchor the show. And, of course, the rape is now long forgotten.

We had Caroline thinking she was sleeping with Thorne and calling Thorne's name, had her looking sick when she learned about Ridge's *prank* , but some months later had Caroline proudly telling Ridge that she had stopped being the victim of his prank when they had been lying next to each other and that _she_ had been the aggressor and on some level alway had known that she was having sex with Ridge and not her husband. -> B&B message to the fans: *Don't be upset, the women (Caroline, Brooke, Caroline II) all had wanted it, regardless if they had been drunk, drugged/self-medicated* .
