*ERIC ENCOURAGING BROOKE TO MARRY RIDGE IS BAD WRITING* 1) _It Betrays the Show's Long Term History:_ There was so much complexity in the Ridge/Brooke/Eric triangle and for Eric to just give them his blessing now undermines all that. Brooke is Eric's ex-wife and the mother of his child - that should be the source of misgivings and angst for Eric. He should instead be discouraging the relationship and there should always be this undercurrent of does he still have feelings for Brooke? There could even be a scene where Sheila is jealous and threatened by this. The show should be treating Eric like a character with subjectivity, not just an object of the plot. Things like messy character histories and complicated feelings are the essence of drama but the show isn't interested in complexity and drama now, it's just burning through plot. 2) _It Betrays the Show's Short Term History:_ We JUST saw a scene a few episodes ago with Eric and Stephanie where he expressed his dismay over Ridge stopping Brooke & James' elopement! He was completely in sync with Stephanie and now all of a sudden he's flip-flopped on that without any explanation? At the very least they could've had Sheila manipulate Eric and change his mind since she doesn't want Brooke to marry James, and that would play into the Sheila vs Stephanie rivalry for control of the plot. But instead we just get episode discontinuity. This will happen a lot under the new writing regime where in order to just make a scene work, character nuances will be flattened and the viewer will just be expected to forget what they saw onscreen in the past and even from one episode to the next! @Shane Marais identified this frustrating "rewriting" yesterday and it's just going to get worse and more prevalent under Brad Bell.

She was not wealthy nor was she born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Her father left the family while she was a teenager and they struggled. It wasn’t easy, yet she went to college and obtained a degree. She had to fight and work hard for what she had. Stephanie on the other hand came from money and always looked down on Brooke and her family. She always said. Brooke was after the money and the prestige. Brooke’s mother was dating Eric in college but Stephanie moved on and became pregnant and Eric left Beth. Years later it came out that Stephanie had slept with someone else and the child (Ridge) was not Eric’s. Valley Girl is a derogatory term used by the wealthy to put down someone’s character who supposedly came from “the wrong side of town”

ITA that Taylor and Brooke have similar backgrounds. They went to the same high school, both had daddy issues (Jack was a gambler, Stephen unsuccessful with his investments and ran off). Brooke and Taylor had to work side jobs to be able to study (Taylor has met her husband Blake, when she has worked as a waitress and he paid for her medical education after they got married). Caroline has a different background. She chose to distance herself from her rich dad and moved out, after her father had hired a PI to watch her fiance Ridge. But Caroline still had her money and her only issue had been to get a job on her own with her degree. And yes, Caroline got one - and she was successful later when Bill put her in charge of a newfound magazine. As for Brooke and her master - the show never mentioned a master in 1987 but when Brooke had started at the University lab, the show several time had Brooke going to medical conferences to present her papers (eg. one around the time Ridge was at the hospital because he had been shot). In one episode (637) we had Sally reading in the newspaper about *chemist Brooke Logan honored by international immunology conference* and had Brooke some episodes before that informing Ridge that she would be in Stockholm for a week because of the work she had done on T-cells.

This “Taylor returns from the dead” storyline is a bit ridiculous and to the audience, it was clear the first second this scene started in the previous episode that it was Taylor in the bed. I mean, a mystery patient laying in a hospital that is obviously in a middle eastern setting (palm trees outside the windows, Indian doctor of middle eastern decent, Taylor’s plane crashing in Egypt). So silly and obvious. It would have been a MUCH bigger shock and twist if it wasn’t Taylor, but when the Dr removes the mosquito nets around the bed, it was revealed as Deveny Dixon (aka “Fake” Angela Forrester) fresh out of plastic surgery to fix her face from the severe burns. That would have been fun. Deveny Dixon was wonderfully evil and demented and I’d have welcomed having her surprisingly return to wreck havoc on Stephanie Forrester. How awesome would it have been having Stephanie fighting evils on two fronts (Deveny and Sheila). Hahaa

Stephanie is right til today. Rigde was never permanently happy with brooke. Bridge was and is one of the most toxic relationships ever in the history of the show. And she didn't say that sexual attraction isn't important, but it's not the most important thing in a marriage. There has to be more. But brigde never had and doesn't have nor will ever have more than only lust. They never ever shared more than that. And just out of curiosity, Eric has throught out the history of the show more than a half dozent failed marriages, engagements and relationships behind him, and a lot of them not with Stephanie, and with dirty, sluty, sexual promsique women, so why have those failed - the sex was there, but yet none of it ever lasted.
