The characters in this episode voice some of the major themes of this show: *DESTINY.* Note the competing versions between Eric & Stephanie’s view of destiny as something you create and control (16:24) whereas Brooke views it as something that just happens to you (18:36). And Eric's "back in control" line also gets to the theme of who controls the plot that is always present on this show and usually a battle between Stephanie and another storyteller. Here we have control of the company and control of the plot being conflated even though that isn't always the case (Brooke wasn't always able to control the plot despite being CEO of Forrester). *CHANCE vs DESIGN.* Similar to the competing versions of Destiny but this one is also tied into the artistic themes of the show. And here we have Ridge, an artist/designer invoking Chance (“the die is cast” at 17:00) rather than using his influence as Brooke’s husband to design the outcome he wants (his parents back in control of Forrester). Ridge has been curiously passive in this storyline and it’s going to backfire when Brooke reneges on the deal. Ironically, Ridge was more actively involved in designing the outcome the last time he tried to get Brooke to sign a contract relinquishing Belief, but Chance intercepted when he took the wrong/unsigned contract home. So it’s almost like Ridge is invoking Chance here again as a warning. *REALITY vs FANTASY:* Even though their roles have been reversed, we have Taylor assuming her old position as reality check and Brooke playing the role of the fauxmantic heroine again. Brooke wants to go on living in a fantasy where Taylor is still dead but Taylor wants to come back from the dead and make herself “real” again. This time reality will actually work out for Brooke but it’s telling that her natural posture is to avoid it and retreat into fantasy.

Those are some great points _Saint Nicholas._ Brooke thinks that "destiny is something that just happens to you" when it favors her. When it doesn't she becomes forceful and then starts fabricating things. Part of why it took 7 long years for Ridge to finally fight for her is because her love can be suffocating, artists don't like that.

Brooke showing Taylor _pictures_ of her family with Ridge is basically her reinforcing Taylor's role as the outsider looking in, and making sure she remains in that role. And Taylor herself knows she is in that role, because she was _already_ looking at pictures of Ridge before Brooke arrived.

Yes it's another example of the switch. What's interesting though is that Taylor's outside-looking-in often involves it being thr own in her face. Brooke brings the photos over, Omar forced her to watch Ridge & Brooke through the two-way mirror, and even the magazine spread was something Brooke wanted for the world to see her and Ridge as an ideal couple. Whereas Brooke's outside-looking-in was often the result of Brooke _actively spying_ on Ridge and Taylor (at the Christmas party, through their pool house window). Certainly there are times Taylor sought Ridge & Brooke out (like going to the seminar in disguise) but in general there's the sense that Taylor is being acted upon while Brooke is always active.

While Brooke does make some salient points about the time line (as we kept saying, timeliness was everything), Brooke literally is focused on the wrong thing. For one.. Taylor being alive means Ridge isn't actually Brooke's husband legally. I don't think that's soaked into her head yet. For another thing... Keeping the truth from Ridge about Taylor actually isn't helpful to her or her children. Even if Taylor decided to acquiesce now, she could change her mind later.. Why would Brooke want to live in continuous fear of one day the truth coming out. The longer Brooke knows the truth and hides it from Ridge, the worse it would make her look. Timing is everything for Brooke, as well. The argument Brooke makes for Taylor to stay away is actually just as silly as the one Taylor made to convince herself to stay away. For all her bravado, it is clear, like Taylor, Brooke doesn't know for sure what Ridge would do once he finds out Taylor is actually alive ...

Yes; Taylor’s story doesn’t make too much sense and the more Brooke questions her, it only leads to more questions. Taylor states she wants her husband back, yet she also married Omar knowing she was married to someone else. She had opportunity to reveal herself right before Brooke and Ridge left the castle, but she said nothing. Yes, Brooke needs to tell Ridge as this will not be hidden forever but Taylor should be the one to break it to Ridge and explain all the costumes and masquerading she did. It will not be an easy story to explain. As Brooke said, if she was in her position, she would have contacted her husband as soon as she was able. What Taylor did and how she has handled flies against all rationality. Brooke and Ridge married truly believing Taylor was dead. Omar and Taylor married knowing Taylor was married to someone else.

Talk about bug eyes; I thought Taylor's were going to pop right out of their sockets in these scenes. Taylor isn't doing herself any favors by remaining silent about her whereabouts for the last 10 months. Keeping silent allows Brooke's imagination to run wild. Brooke doesn't know anything about Prince Omar, or the palace, or Taylor being held against her will. Taylor knows that all Brooke will see and acknowledge is that Taylor married a man while still married to Ridge, and with her full memory back, so she isn't talking. I love how Brooke holds her ground here, not allowing Taylor's usual tactics get to her. She is also the only one making any sense; Taylor expects Brooke to be sympathetic to something she doesn't understand, while Brooke is dealing with the reality of what the family went through, and how they all healed. She is also dealing with the reality that she has been married to Ridge for almost a year, and Taylor just thinks she can materialize from the dead, and come back with her hand out, expecting life to resume where it left off. And then there is her remark about how she will give Brooke one more day with Ridge. PFFFTTTT! Really? This woman's arrogance and sense of entitlement go way beyond the pale. But she will soon find out who Ridge is committed to.
