Sheila's storyline is shaping up to be another struggle for control of the plot. Sheila of course is driving the plot right now but for the first time ever, she's misreading the story and being deceived by the object of her affection. James is trying to get control of Sheila so he can escape the plot - he's like the classic storytelling trickster. And Mike remains a reliable narrator and Sheila's voice of reason, correctly warning her of exactly what James is trying to do.

This is the second fantasy sequence that Anthony has in a short time - and the two daydreams are _virtually identical,_ emphasizing their obsessive nature. Both of them feature an initially innocent interaction between Macy and Anthony, then him trying to seduce her, her saying no, him persisting anyway, and her finally giving in to her desires. They are both daydreams with threa tening undertones, as they are based on the premise (in Anthony's mind) that "no means yes". They also cement the shift in the writing towards letting the viewer see more of Anthony's thoughts and motivations, increasing the tension by letting _us_ know things that Macy _doesn't._

It’s an interesting writing choice that in all of Anthony’s fantasies, he’s always forcing her, compelling her. He could just as easily imagine her already in love with him, but no - the writers show us how twisted he is by him *wanting* to compel her. The Sheila and James thing - I’m sorry, I just can’t. He’s her prisoner and it’s not compelling, it’s gross.

Exactly - I noticed the same thing! Anthony views Macy as a conquest, not a companion - an object rather than a person. And this is entirely consistent with his treatment of her all along, starting with how they first met.

A shift towards less consistent writing is beginning to become noticeable at this point but there's still a lot keeping it all together. To me, the worst decline in writing has been post 2003.
