Once again, homes tell a story, this time indicating Brooke and Taylor's new roles. Brooke is living in a home that Ridge bought for her while Taylor is living in a home that Stephanie coaxed her to buy. It's a big change from before when Taylor was fully absorbed into the family fold and living in the Forrester pool house with Ridge (denoting her status as his wife and Stephanie's daughter-in-law) and Brooke was living alone in the pink condo (denoting a single-life and her recently divorced status from Eric).

There's something that rings hollow about Stephanie urging Taylor to fight for Ridge when Stephanie made herself so miserable fighting for Eric. If the writing had stayed true to what we'd been led to believe about Stephanie (sharp as a tack, quick-witted, intelligent, capable, emotionally mature), she would have learned from her fight for Eric, and not have wished the same for Taylor.

I have a running theory that the arrival of James "crowded out" Connor's role on the show because the two characters occupied similar spaces (rival with Ridge, frenemy with Stephanie, antagonist to Sheila, romantic with Brooke). @NewYorkNick0607 Overrall Connors character is much more interesting than James. But they created Connor as a rival/antagonist during the BELIEF drama.Which was his main purpose. So, unless you tie him back with Brooke or Taylor, he is just a filler. A total waste! As for James, they immersed him in with the Forresters and a semi friendship with Stephanie. Plus, the real purpose of James's character is not truly revealed until 2006.

He's the only other character who's ever been believable as a real romantic rival with Ridge for Brooke. Instead they wasted him on Karen who didn't even last on the show. 🙄

*Yet another role reversal* It is odd to see Stephanie encourage Taylor to go after Ridge after he has made his choice to stay with Brooke and the children, because it now puts Taylor and Stephanie in _Brooke's_ previous position of trying to break up Ridge's existing relationship, going against Ridge's own decision. This shows (again) that by now, the character boundaries between Taylor and Brooke are not as clear-cut anymore. The roles are reversed, and even though Taylor is still remaining somewhat true to her Good Girl archetype because Stephanie is the one actually speaking the "forbidden desires" out loud _for Taylor,_ Brooke suddenly has the "moral upper hand" (which has never happened prior to this storyline). Ridge has made an informed choice and chosen Brooke. Taylor and Stephanie are scheming and Brooke is not. There is a clear attempt on Bell's part to transition Broke into a "hero ine" role, while Taylor's character is strangely directionless (a result, as *Nick* said the other day, of her no longer being the Wife).

Yes exactly. And Taylor resisting Stephanie's call to arms ("It's humiliating, it's demeaning!") is her Good Girl-ness pushing back against her new role. This has always been their dynamic and Taylor has described Stephanie's tactics as demeaning before, but the difference now is that their dynamic (Taylor being passive/Stephanie urging her to act) is in service of breaking up Ridge's relationship with the woman he has chosen rather than defending it.

I can agree that Stephanie is forcing/ suggesting Taylor to not give up on Ridge. But their conspiracy ended with their talk. . Taylor took the warnings while married to Ridge but she always behaved the way she feels.

Having watched B&B for too many years, I really doubt that (happy ending).
