The musical montage of "What's Forever For" in this episode is a way for the show to further increase Thorne and Macy's rooting value as a couple by making us remember their duets and their history from the years when JT was playing Thorne (because Macy and WH's Thorne don't really have a lot of useful romantic history - even the flashback in the montage was from the Brooke/Thorne storyline). The problem, of course, is that Thorne no longer sings, so they have to find ways to use the duets while working around the absence of JT's singing voice. The writers first did this by simply having Macy perform the duets as solo songs (Separate Lives, When I Fall In Love), but this time, they choose a different approach by using the _camerawork_ to create a "visual duet". Thorne and Macy aren't actually singing, but the camera follows the structure of the duet as they used to sing it, showing Thorne where he used to have a solo, Macy where she used to have a solo, and both of them where they used to sing together. Another connection to Thorne and Macy's duets is that this montage, where both of them remember each other, exists in the same kind of "shared musical reality" that sometimes happened when Thorne and Macy had their "non-realistic" duets (singing together in spite of being in different locations).

This is another improvement on Taylor. In the Morocco storyline, Stephanie had to tell Taylor she wasn't acting like herself. But Macy has self-awareness. 😉

This episode does provide some further explanation as to why Adam and Lorenzo were so determined to keep Macy in Italy with them all this time. The men that were after Adam is only half the reason. The other half is Thorne, and what he did to Macy the last time they were together. When they are talking about keeping Macy safe, they aren't talking about what the mobsters might do to her, but what _Thorne_ might do to her, and what she might do to _herself_ if Thorne were to betray her again. But they aren't telling Macy that.

Now THAT makes the most sense. Even Darla says it.. The mob is after Adam not Macy. Macy was in LA the entire time Adam was hiding and not one mobster even thought to kidnap her to bring Adam out? Now, macy's explanation of how she sank to the bottom of herself bc of Thorne and not wanting to go back there makes sense.

@@TriniT21 and Adam has already had to save Macy's life _twice_ when she got to that low point - first after Grant's death when she tried to dr own herself, and then after the car expIosion. The real danger here is that Macy has the potential to self-destruct in emotionally stressful situations. And her relationship with Thorne has been nothing _but_ emotional stress for her.

@@annieo6527 her relationship was Thorne has emotionally distressing to *me* Loll. Yes I am watching her marriage to Grant now, and that's the marriage /relationship she always deserved.. But of course the writers couldn't just let Macy be happy and had to have Thorne sniffing around when he realised he could never have taylor, and then the whole lack of being able to have a baby, culminating in grant's d eath. I mean, how much sadness and loss they put Macy thru is ridiculous.

Don’t get me wrong, Thorne doesn’t deserve Macy, but in each episode Lorenzo reveals a new behavior that basically makes him a textbook case of domestic abusers.

I agree! It has been like that from the start. Hiding newspapers from her. Emotionally bIackmaiIing her into staying in Italy. Trying to talk Adam out of letting her see her mother. Telling her what she can and can't sing. Waiting for her at home to ask where she's been. And Macy's passivity and acceptance of Lorenzo and Adam's controI over her also has these unsettling undertones.

@@annieo6527That episode last week where she comes home from seeing Sally and he’s waiting there for her in the dark, glaring at her, honestly made me shudder. The thing is that I don’t even think Brad realizes how badly the character comes off. He has Adam team up with Lorenzo to control Macy, and later in LA Sally promotes him too. When any parent would be very leery of a man who took advantage of their daughter at her weakest, and now gets mad when he can’t control her.
