Phish played @Hampton Colosseum, VA on October 20, 2013. They played the song ‘Bold as Love’ and Trey absolutely just does his thing and goes tf in. It might even be up there in some of Trey’s best work

this is what people mean when they say phish doesn’t “rock” or “swing”, “they just kinda noodle along” ..

No. Wrong. Absolutely incorrect. This is boring and dead pan and straight forward and lacking grit and nastiness in the tone. He sounds like shot without the Mesa head and homemade cabs. I hated this mahogany guitar. Trey NEVER could control the feedback on it. It would feedback when he didn’t want it to and could let get the sustain when he needed it. It was painful to watch this era.

Idk i dig the cleaner tone. Also, that’s prob the best/nicest guitar you could ever own man... It’s prob just the way he’s got his amps and compressor dialed in

@@KotaEditing it was the guitar... he admitted it in an interview that he always struggled to control the feedback...I can’t imagine that much gain and a hollow body!!!

Obviously you know NOTHING of ‘91-‘98 phish. This doesn’t hold a candle to the WORST show of the 90s. Truth. Facts. Time machine desired.

I think Trey 3.0 plays w more control/more tension than ever before. Don’t get me wrong, Trey 1.0 was prob one of the best guitar players alive during ‘90-‘94. I feel like his playing in the 90s tho was just wayy too shreddy. He’d always end up doing too much and playing too fast for his fingers. It’d make a lot of his solos sound super sloppy

@@KotaEditing dang bro, we just listen differently I guess cuz I hear a BUNCH of flubs and missed notes in THIS solo. BUT HEY WHO CARES LOOK AT THAT TOUR 2021 ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!!!!!! See ya out there!!!!!! (I’m all like screw 3.0...I do t even see 3.0 show all use in the air - then they announce tour and I have to take $7000 to the bank in case I get all my requested tix🤓🤐🙃🤗😝🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪🤪)

@@KotaEditing ten years ago I prob would have agreed but as I get better at electric guitar (only acoustic for many years) I’ve learned to listen to Trey completely differently. I’ve been chasing his tone forever and my new analogman Ross comp (bi-comp and I love the orange squeezer just as much as the Ross) has me almost TOO close. Now I’m all like... shit I need a fuzz pedal!

@@KotaEditing ! I agree 3.0 is more soulful and much more about feeling than the 90s shred fest. BUT I don’t care much for it. There are plenty of other artists making eloquent statements on guitar. I miss machine gun Trey. I think Trey would play too fast for fishman but never outpaced himself. It’s prob better he doesn’t try to play that way now. I’m not sure they could physically do it. Hence the slow Llama. Aging happens.

@@KotaEditing the only thing that really bothers me now is how trey will forget an entire composed section, page picks it up and most people don’t even fucking notice. It’s really really disappointing especially at $100 for a ticket. My friends think I’m being pessimistic when I say I’d rather spend the week practicing and buy some new gear with the $3000 I’d spend traveling to see TWO BAD SHOWS!!!!!! But it’s totally true. AZ will be the sleeper. That or SAC. They’ll prob cover Paul McCartney’s RAM or something totally loco then debut Kasvot Vaxt album #2 for the idiots who go to Vegas.
