Discover the rich tradition of "Malan," or farming, in the Ngaju Dayak language, where the Dayak people of Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, plant seeds according to their ancestral customs and local wisdom.
Local farmers, with the support of the Borneo Institute Foundation and the Crop Trust's #BOLDcwr Project, conserve vital rice, maize, eggplant, and cowpea seeds. These seeds play a crucial role in indigenous rituals and ceremonies, symbolizing the deep cultural roots of the Dayak community.
In 2022, the project helped regenerate 377 seed samples, ensuring their preservation for future generations. Follow their incredible journey as these seeds travel over 10,000 kilometers to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in the Arctic Circle, safeguarding Dayak heritage and global crop diversity.
