*SEXISM AND FEMALE SUBJECTS* _"If you leave birth control up to Sheila, you'll have to face the consequences."_ Notice how Stephanie talks as if Eric has no responsibility or agency in this matter. Sheila is solely to blame for whatever happens. There's no question about why Eric is still sleep ing with Sheila even though she's so untrustworthy. In Stephanie's mind, it is a given that a man like Eric will want s ex and whatever results from that is the woman's fault. Stephanie talks this way about Brooke too, as if Eric and Ridge have no control over themselves and are just victims of Brooke's seduction. This is of course a very sexist viewpoint and even though Stephanie is my favorite character, I'm not above calling her out for it. She's always had a blindspot for the lousy men in her family and this is where her retrograde views comes out. It is part of Stephanie as a _character._ At the same time, Stephanie is also _a narrator and storyteller_ and in that mode, her describing the situation this way actually places female subjectivity at the center of the narrative. By giving Sheila & Brooke all the agency in these matters and Eric & Ridge none of it, she essentially makes the men objects in the games that these women play. The women on the show are the active agents who drive the plot and the men (especially the Forrester men) are just the prizes they fight over. It just shows the vice and virtue of the soap genre: it can both promote gender double standards while also using that to make the show All About the Women.

Brilliantly put. I have to also call out my beloved Steph for accommodating Eric in his deception of his wife. She should know what it feels like to be deceived by her husband (helped by the woman the wife despises)... And on top of that, she shouldn't be helping Eric in the first place! He doesn't deserve it. But as u say. She has a blind/soft spot for the men in her family (even Thorne.. Bc macy is usually the issue even tho her son has neurotic tendencies). And yes the other women are deceptive quote alot, but at some point she has to realise that these men are very culpable in allowing disaster. But, as you say, this show really is run by the women.. The men just help move the plot along... (This is prob why, despite not liking the general storyline, I kind of like omar.. He is the only man who is active in his role - of course driven by his love for a woman - but he's really quite a dominant male character. Maybe if they had him interact with Steph would be different, but as it is, he's very much given some actual power, and not just male sekshual prowess)

I don't know what everyone's problem here is with Stephanie giving a necklace to Taylor. If that would have been broken Brookehoe nobody would make a fuss. It's a necklace. Yes, it's a fily heirloom, but it's probably not the only jewelry family heirloom that stephanie Hass, so I think Kristen and Felicia are fine. Stephanie never said, that Kristen and Felicia don't get anything from her. She said she has a lot of wonderful pieces for them, probably also heirlooms. And Sally's relationship with Macy isn't that great either.

With the later writing (2006), I doubt that Stephanie still had dozens of necklaces from her grandmother in her jewelry box. How quickly do parents pass all heirlooms over to their children? And do they even pass them down, when the children refuse to see them or claim that the parents are dead (and tell their mother that the mother is dead to them)? spoiler Stephanie for many many years has lied to her family that both her parents are dead and she has been to their funeral. Until 2006 Stephanie had cut all contact with her mother Anne.
