The pitch of the triangle depends on its length and technically heating and cooling it will change its length, although not by very much. The only way to really change the pitch is to sand it down or cut it.
@runrig972 жыл бұрын
Or add some weight to the triangle, e.g., solder or duct tape, to reduce the frequency, I e., lower the pitch. Cutting off some of the end will raise the pitch.

Went looking for this comment. It's like altering the effective string length with fingering to change pitch on an instrument like, say, the violin.
@landsgevaer2 жыл бұрын
It also depends on its mass and stiffness. Temperature affects the modulus of elasticity. Steel becomes more "floppy" at high temperatures. As a result, its pitch should decrease (a tiny bit). That effect goes in the same direction as thermal expansion; expansion has an even smaller effect.

I was so sad to hear how long Eddy's mom was doubtful about twoset's vision and achievements (or maybe even about his decision to become a musician, if this kept going for eight years up until their first world tour?) Just think about how much determination you would need to do what they did. And Eddy did it all while his parent doubted him. Imagine how much brett's support and their shared vision must have meant to him. I mean they pulled off a youtube channel without funding, they slept on the streets and busked all day long to get crowdfunding for their first tour. They have been working their asses off all these years. Both of them have put in so many endless hours of practice, filming, editing, planning, logistics, and all the stuff that we don't even know about. Imagine doing all that without a supportive parent while still being quite young (and didn't they say in another video that none of their friends thought twoset was a good idea?). It seems that it was the two of them who supported each other and their vision, and only the two of them. I have maximum respect for what they did. And I don't even know if they give themselves enough credit. Please celebrate with bubble tea 40 hours every day.🎆
@gatesurfer2 жыл бұрын
This is all true. But I also think they were having a really good time doing it. As for defying their parents, well, bottom line, parents want their kids to be happy and safe. Even Asian parents. (I'm Asian and followed a fairly unconventional career path myself.) And the other thing is, they want to be able to BRAG about their kids, which is an automatic if your kid becomes a doctor, but more difficult if you're just launching a KZbin channel. But I can hear Eddy's mom now: "My son, so popular, la. Got 3 million subscribers, la. On magazine cover, la. Almost like top fashion designer, with apparel line, la. He know so many famous peopoe, la, and so many famous peopoe want know him, la."
@MK-ro4ff2 жыл бұрын
@@gatesurfer 😂 thanks for the laughs and your perspective! adding to what you said, i guess youtube is just a pretty new type of career as well. most parents did not grow up with yt, and i guess it's hard for any parent of eddy's mum's age group, of any culture, to associate or measure success with something that is probably quite unfamiliar and not tangible to them. so the concert posters helped for sure. still, what an accomplishment 👍
@antine12795 ай бұрын
Look there's a lot worse things in life than a parent disagreeing with your life path. There's horrible, horrible parents out there who fuck up their kids in so many ways, it's just good to have some perspective. As an actor (and singer as well) I really appreciate your comments about the importance of interpretation. The things that I hear people say are "how do you memorize all of those lines" as if memorization was it takes to act. @CopShowGuy2 жыл бұрын
Same for playing music. Memorizing your part can be pretty simple. Playing the part is more difficult.

Yes! People really seem to think that remembering lines is the difficult part of acting... Even as an amateur actor. I once complained that I had no idea what I was doing on stage and the others in my theatre group were like "Oh, you're good though, you remember all your lines!". I'm like "thanks, I'm very good at holding a pencil as well. Does that make me an artist?" Although I once went to a theatre show where the script was so weird and incoherent that I told the lead actor afterwards "I know this is usually a stupid 'compliment' to professional actors, but I applaud you for leaning those lines!"

I totally agree with what Eddy said at 6:07 (they actually addressed this many times already, they even made videos to prove how important musicality is). As a violin newbie, I normally just play notes and practice techniques and intonation. Only recently I'm going to have my first recital so my teacher started to instruct me on musicality, and I began to realize how one note can be played in so many different ways. Like you can do different types of vibrato of course, and also you can add gliss between some notes to give it more taste, you can change your bow speed to do a quick crescendo or diminuendo, etc. I'm still a newbie so there is still a lot for me to learn, but I do feel, for the first time, by myself, how to add different colors to the music.

I love Eddy's analogy. As someone who has interest in acting, i can attest that the styles in which actors bring the scripts to life varies. That's why it's amusing to watch different renditions of theatre play characters. It's similar to listening to Hilary Hahn or Ray Chen playing the same piece. Or people making their own covers/renditions of Billie Eilish's Happier Than Ever. There will always be something different in their interpretation and vibe. There's authenticity in that, too.

As someone majoring in music composition, I have SOOOO much love and respect for performers. There is so much technicality involved in performing. The amount of ways you can interpret and play just one note or set of notes is insane. There’s so much time and work put into the most subtle changes. Performers are such an important part of what makes music great! Anyone who thinks that performers aren’t real artists has no idea WTF they’re talking about. 😤
@brennengrimes2 жыл бұрын
You can tune triangle by cutting off the ends, making the rod thinner or drilling holes. Before a triangle gets into a shape, they would make sure the rod plays a certain pitch (there are triangles for each pitch), if it’s too flat, they can trim the ends, if it’s too sharp, then they can go up to the next note with it. Then they bend it into shape.

I don't know who makes the decision for what piece to play in the background but it's not only effective it's also accurate! The meme about the Shostakovich symphony was specifically referencing Shostakovich's 9th symphony, which started playing in the background. This would have been in 1945, after WWII had ended and less than a year after Prokofiev's own 5th symphony, which was written at the turning point of WWII and premiered to huge critical acclaim (after Prokofiev's own difficulties with Soviet censorship, although I think Shostakovich's struggles in that area are more infamous). At that point the curse of the 9th was well known so Stalin wanted Shostakovich to write an enormous, bombastic 9th symphony like Beethoven or Mahler (or prokofiev 5) to celebrate Soviet victory and strength. Instead Shostakovich wrote.... that. You can hear in the video around 9:12 the theme from the first movement - quick, sardonic, and a little sarcastic. Then, after 8 years of NO symphonies from Shostakovich, Stalin died in 1953 and Shostakovich immediately wrote his 10th symphony, the second movement of which is supposed to be a musical depiction of Stalin. Personally I believe Shostakovich was able to evade the curse of the 9th because he transferred it to Stalin.

I don't know if you have seen any references to "Editor-san" in the comments, but they are a big reason for this channel's success. Often when one of them are describing something about a particular piece of music, it shows up, as if by magic, in the audio. I saw this on google and wanted to share it with you fellow twosetters! (Not written by me) You can Tune a triangles pitch by shortening the space on the bottom part that you strike, with electric tape. This will raise the pitch, my triangle has an unaltered pitch of B, using tape I now have one side tuned to C (blue) and the other side tuned to G. It seems the area of exposed surface (no tape) on the bottom side determines the pitch, so for G, I had to raise the pitch 5 steps, thus the tape on both sides of the bar. This is easiest to do if you can match the pitch with your voice or another instrument, a tuner won’t get it so you need a pretty good ear. So now my triangle plays in C or G depending which way I hold it. I also have tape across the outside bar only to mute the instrument a bit, as my triangle is very loud. I actually stumbled upon this this evening trying to mute my triangle and quickly discovered it changed the pitch, went to see if anyone else knew about this and it appears not, so happy to share a new discovery, happy playing out there!

Yeah, sure, one's not a real musician if they "just read some notes others written". Then how come the same notes feel so vastly different when played by different musician? And most times just played by the same musician at different times, depending on their emotional state? Can a robot do that, I wonder.... 🤔😊
@GizzyDillespee2 жыл бұрын
Yes, of course artificial intelligence can do that. It can write the music, too. They can consume the music, as well. There's no longer any need for human involvement in the arts.

I am remembering a biography of James Herriot (pseudonym) the author of All Creatures Great and Small. His father, in addition to working in The Glasgow shipyards also worked as a pianist in local pubs. The author took the stand that because he did not play in an orchestra, he was not a "real" musician. My question is: If a piano is sitting in a bar, does that mean that it is not a real musical instrument, and the man playing it is not a real musician? Admittedly the standards are not the same as in an orchestra, but there are real standards. The player has to learn a repertoire and if he does not practice and play well, he is not going to hold the job for long. He also has to be able to learn all the newest songs as they become popular and be able to play them on request even after ten or twenty years. In my opinion, if a person takes the time to learn a skill with a musical instrument well enough that people are willing to pay or give him tips for playing that instrument, then he is a real musician.

I think a musician is someone puts his/her heart and soul into making the music, which expresses one's sentiments, regardless of where he/she plays the music!❤💚💛💜
@澄-j4k2 жыл бұрын
I mean the definition a musician is literally just someone who plays music. A dancer is still a dancer even if they don’t choreograph. Now within the category of “musician” you can be anything ranging from a “virtuosic musician”, a “composer-musician”, an “amateur musician”, a “well-rounded musician”, an “unconventional musician”, etc. Doesn’t matter which one you are all of them are real musicians.

@@俞嘉琳-x6c Yes! If the sounds you make evokes feelings, such as sadness, anger, patriotism, joy, derision, love, or grief, you are a musician, no matter where you play or what you use as an instrument. Two hands slapping your knee can make music if you use them right. Add your voice and you can express anything.

Not a classical musician, mote into the jazz realm but i can relate to the recording meme. Actually for me , it sounds amazing when i practice what I have to record, perfect tone, the groove is there, might add some tasty stuff that i didn't plan. Press record, poop sound, out of time, bass goes out of tune instantly (if it ever was in tune :p )

Fun fact on the topic of pitch and cold: you can actually hear the difference between hot and cold water being poured in a glass
@landsgevaer2 жыл бұрын
The velocity of sound in water depends on temperature, changes by some 10% from cold to hot. That affects the resonances that occur. Similar when stirring foam into coffee, and then letting the tiny bubbles rise. Tapping the cup will give a rising pitch.

10:31 Maybe bc you re hitting it on the outside and hitting it with different force each time. I am not a professional triangle player or anything but from my knowledge you want to hit it in the middle and make sure it is hit with the same force in the same spot for the same sound.Also I am pretty sure different triangles have different pitch. This is just my knowledge so take it with a grain of salt
@landsgevaer2 жыл бұрын
Bigger or thinner triangles should have lower pitch, so geometry definitely affects pitch.

For tuning ceramic instruments like ocarinas are tricky, too cold and they become kind of pitchy and higher than they should be, and as they warm up the pitch lowers slightly.
@foxyjambread38262 жыл бұрын
You can use heat and/or humidity (carefully) to tune a frame drum - both of these things are major (and frustrating) factors in how the skin is pitched. When I traveled from bone-dry Albuquerque to swamp-humid Dallas, my bodhrán was almost impossible to keep in tune. EDIT: I looked it up, and you can tune a triangle using electrical tape, apparently.

To change the pitch of a triangle you either need to shorten the ends, or add a weight to the ends. Try putting a bunch of rubber bands on the two open sides, to lower the pitch. Add the same number of bands to both sides at the same distance from the ends.

Very famous actors with those violin scenes and I am sure plenty of money! I am sure they can afford some preparation for music scenes before hand! I haven’t seen a single violin scene that has been good.
