I have a brown skin tone, my mum is fair so outside of my home I've heard comments like how lucky would I have been if I had my mum's skin tone.due to the societal thought about fair skin is beautiful, I kind of always pushed back the people who liked me because deep down I didn't like myself or shall I say find myself beautiful. The biggest portrayal that I feel is disgrace to someone's complexion is that Bollywood is continuously trying to portray a message that if you are poor then that person would be with a darker skin tone and must be wearing saree bindi sindoor.and if some person is very modern or let's say well educated rich then that person must be fair in complexion... Not only bollywood, this mentality exists in other film industries as well. For example Kriti Kharbanda, Hansika Motwani, Kajal Agarwal, Tamannaah Bhatia, have done a lot of movies in South where they had no meaty role other than being damsel in distress only because of their looks( primarily skin tone). Infact Tamannaah is allegedly known as "Milky beauty" "Navel queen" etc.. primarily due to her complexion. Although there have been exceptions like Anushka Shetty, Sai Pallavi, Parvati thottukamal, etc who have created a niche for themselves regarding their acting prowess.

How many times we raised it regarding skin tone matter but in reality we always prefer a fair skin tone girl with beautiful long hair and not only that she must have a good height. This is what we call " beauty " in our society and if that type of girl doesn't have any virtues or a good personality still that doesn't count. It's not just Bollywood if you'd see... in fact I feel that Bollywood & Hindi webseries are way better in giving space to brown / dusky actresses... our Southern film industry is arguably worse. They cast dusky actors but will go out of the way to cast fair skinned actresses... in fact this is why many Bollywood actresses have a debut movie from Southern India. Every one in my family are fair but not me . I am a 15 year old medium brown girl , And that's what everyone in the whole entire family from my Mother and my Father's side hate about me. All people compare me to my cousin and my elder sister who are fair. Now i don't know what the problem in it, but they are always hesitant to talk to me and whenever they do, they just say ' hey you should get some skin lightening treatment' and what not . I'm telling you we had the best era when mallika sherawat was considered hottest, I still like to call her hot instead of sunny leone, she has brown indian colour same goes with Bipasha Basu she was so sexy in her time and brown skin tone use to consider that, hollywood are obsessed with tan skin and here comes Bollywood forgetting it's own roots. Exactly, reverse racism has become so common these days but it doesn't count in racism lol. Usually, darker people go through colorism but we can't deny that people these days also started bashing fair skin these days specially on internet. I have seen these things on reels, shorts, comments etc. They're like "you're not Indian enough, real Indians are brown skinned only, you probably have deficiency of something" etc things. Recently, I've come through one comment in which a girl was openly shaming fair people by calling them unhealthy and defected like can you imagine how people do things in extreme. They can't praise every skin tone but they just want to degrade one thing to uplift another one. I actually hate these double standards, if someone just praise fair skin without comparison.. people are like "you're racist, colorist etc" but if someone openly passes racist or colorist comments about fair skin then no one have any problem with them, even people would appreciate such racists and reverse racism has become so common on internet these days.

In Us also main leads are mostly preferred in fair. Only in few movies they give priority to various people. Sad thing is that star kids are having that pressure to look great and as some of their parents did surgeries, their genetics will still show the before surgery features of their faces in them. That’s one they also have to modify them selves. These can lead to some issues in old ages.

I have been observing my favorite director Priyadarshan since he came back in 2021, I felt that he had also lightened his skin. I remember that in 2009, I used to find him very ugly despite admiring him a lot. Since the year 2014, when he got divorced, his skin color also lightened and now it turned very fair and I find him handsome since he turned 60 but when I saw his old pics of the 80s to the year 2007, so he was damn handsome before he turned 50, even the fans of his ex wife trolled him for being ugly as that woman was beautiful as per beauty standards. His dusky body looked handsome, one fan said that his lightened skin is the glow of positivity after getting out of a toxic relation but there are some facial injuries (allegedly because of any physical abuse) but those are not hidden despite color changed but his new look appears fake, it won't be a problem if he looked like 80s era but this fair skin is just temporary his complexion just lightened not completely changed to fake fairness. I like men with a dusky body but I don't know why I like fair women maybe coz of beauty standards but I like with bit darker tone. I had vitiligo as a kid due to melanin deficiency and now improved very much and loving my bit darker tone, rather than my white body with spots.

This is Asian Mentality in general as not only Indians but all asians around the globe are obsessed with this. Look at korea, japan, china or south east asian countries in general as they love white skin. Call it colonial hangover or what but we obsess over things we see the most, shows and movies make this feeling more hard to let go. I have wheatish complexion and there was a time when i had a toxic best friend who constantly derided my complexion for no reason. And there were classmates or pados wali aunties or relatives who would comment something on my complexion. I was so afraid to put makeup as someone would comment - ye to makeup me hi achi lagti hai 😅 I did grow some insecurity for my complexion for couple of years but now after so many years of confidence struggle, i have finalllyyyyyy accepted myself. I am wheatish and i love my complexion. I apply make up as well now. It has been a year only and i am still learning to do a good eye make up. So yeah, one day when i will have a daughter or a Bahu😅 and if they have dark skin, i will empower them and help them win the battle against these petty people of society who put a fair complexion at the pedestal. Well talking about suhana it's great to see her represent the brown skin tone but as the clips of archies were circulated it was very sad to see as there were number of people who were calling her kali and ugly in comments so as an audience somewhat we too fit standerds likes these and when these actresses are bullied enough they decide to whitewash themselves by such procedures and again due to these procedures they get trolled as audience dose not like them changing their skin tone but when in real it's us who make them do that and when they do it we as audience shame them for doing it so somewhat I think audience has got double standards. same happened with Kajols daughter.
