Dope method Bruh! Currently I record my audio from my MPCX, (which is in standalone), into the MPC software to song up and/or mix down....the way I do it is: My MPC Live ii is in "Controller Mode" and it controls the MPC software,( naturally lol), and the MPC X is in standalone mode...I sync both units together with a standard midi cable....I connect one end the "midi out" of the MPC Live ii, and the other end to the "midi in" of the MPC X...Now, there are a few changes to make in your midi preferences on the X and on in the software, but it's not difficult to do. You may also have to adjust your audio buffer settings for your audio interface to make up for or decrease any delay on sound you may experience. With the software being the "master", it will control your tempo. No matter what the X is set too. Why do it this way you ask??? Well, if Im working in standalone and I want to take advantage of a few sounds in Omnisphere, then I record the sounds into the software and then after I finish, I can record the loop into the X onto an audio teack. OR I can record it as a sample and drop it on a pad...I have a SSL Six mixer which has multiple outs. So I have cables running out of the SSL into my audio interface AND the MPC X....It takes longer to do it the way I have it set up, but that standalone sound running through the SSL is killer!

There's an even easier way to do it. if you work in standalone. All you have to do this this: 1. Open up your DAW. 2. Add MPC software as a VST 3. Put your MPC into controller Mode. 4. Inside the MPC software, load your project. 5. Add as many Audio tracks inside your DAW as you need. 6. Each Audi track should be routed to the MPC (VST). 7. Push play and record. **Side note** The MPC Software can have up to 32 Audio Outs. So you can assign each of your Tracks to a different out and then you can record each track out at the same time. Hope that make sense? :)

It's Dope seeing your methods! What I do is make EVERYTHING in the MPC using the song mode. I track out all my audio on one sequence before I start to copy sequences to make a song, then I edit my drops, fills and change ups on each sequence, making breakdowns and bridges if it's RnB. After that, I put it all in a folder and drop it into protools!

Cool Technique for recording the MPC using the DAW.....Preciate U!
@kvmoore1
@kvmoore1 3 жыл бұрын
Here's how I would do it in my setup. 1. First, make sure I have an audio interface with enough input channels to support ALL of my hardware so that EACH piece of hardware gets it's own separate channel routed in. 2. Leave a few bars empty at the beginning of the midi sequence in the midi sequencer (MPC). I usually insert 4 or 8 bars in front of mine. 3. Sync the MIDI sequencer with the DAW via MTC (Midi Time Code). 4. Make sure the tempo in your DAW project matches that of your midi sequencer. 5. In your DAW project, setup all of the tracks and audio routings for ALL of your hardware instruments (keyboards, synths, etc..) that you are recording, including separated drums (separate outs from a drum machine, MPC, etc...). Each instrument should have it's own separate track. 6. Arm all tracks for recording. 7. Start recording EVERYTHING in ONE pass. 8. Play back the recording to verify everything recorded correctly. 9. Save the project in your DAW with your newly recorded tracked-out beat. 10. DONE. Now, you can shut off all the hardware synths, MPC, etc and start working on recording the vocals, mixdown, etc.... (Make sure your midi sequence is saved before shutting off the MPC, or whatever other hardware sequencer you may be using!!!!!) I'm not gonna lie. Audio interfaces with 20-40 or more analog inputs aren't cheap, but being able sequence everything on the MPC then track EVERYTHING out in only ONE pass as the entire midi sequence plays back is really a pleasure!!! I've never had any midi hiccups or timing issues using this method either.

Just a side note. If you use a high end DAW like Cakewalk, you can load the .ins file for the instrument into the DAW and control the Audio and MIDI of the instument over the USB. Even multiple instruments at once. The best thing about always having your MIDI tracks is that when you get further down the road into the mixing and production stage, you can make the change very quickly on the midi track without having to re-play the audio manually.

put one or two bars in the beginning - let your song or beat start on the 3th - it has to do with the clock and sync thingie, but you're right, it alway sounds different - that's my problem, if you record what you hear then thats what you get, if you record in midi - seems different, pro's and cons - it is easier to change parameters in midi though

You kinda don't really need midi cables as most midi keyboards or surface controllers from at least 2010 all can be linked to a PC or laptop Daw via USB. Most keyboards and control surface manufacturers have driver downloads and a discription of what goes where when it comes to the files. I got a 11 year old Akai MPK and downloaded the drivers from Akai website and it works fine no problem. Midi is mainly good for linking control surface and keyboards togerther.

Yes, midi does go off beat from time to time, but it's very seldom with me. It might do it every 20 to 30 minutes, I'll notice it shifts or goes off beat for just a split second, but it's not bad enough that I can't use it. I would rather just record a beat straight into what I want to record it into without midi though. There's really no point for midi unless you need the bpm to sync up with your gear. I need it for the Boss RC-505 when I want the tempos to match up on the MPC One and the Roland JD-XI, which it works pretty good with, cause it's kind of hard to get a tempo right where you need it when it loops around without midi sync. I did it before, but I would rather not use midi either Bolo. Your right, I think the newer midi might be a bit better, but it's probably about the same. With what yours did at the beginning though, I never had that happen at the start. Sometime into it, yes...SBN RESONATE

6:57 your MIDI settings are off. You have something in your settings turned on when it should be off, or vice verse. Also, make sure all of you MIDI ins and outs on both the software end and the hardware in. Don't give up on MIDI, you’re just using it wrong... ESPECIALLY in the MPC. I still use my MPC 1000 with the old school MIDI with Logic X and with Reason with no issues. All you need is the master/slave settings. Hopefully someone in the comments can further elaborate. Trust me Bolo, once you get that part squared away you’ll never look back. Right now my hardware setup is similar. I use the MPC1000 as my Master. I have a KORG Triton Studio in slave mode as well as Logic. That way is kinda iffy. So I changed it up. Made Logic the master and the MPC and the Triton the slaves. All the audio is routed into my M-Audio ProFire2626 which has 8 outs that I can then route to my computer from both devices. Being most of the time I use all 16 tracks on the Triton so I do 2 runs on the triton and about 2 runs on the MPC depending on how many tracks I used. I hope this helps and sorry for the essay 😎🥃

To be honest I never really had too many problems with my 2000, 2500 or even my 1000.Just minor issues that were corrected once I routed audio in. But there were still problems. Only time I didn’t have any problems was when I used a master clock to control everything.

Peace @ Bolo Da Producer. I used to have that midi problem as well. When your tracking to your daw,make sure you set the midi tracks to ONLY RECEIVE MIDI INFORMATION FROM THE AKAI MPC,OR THE WORKSTATION/DEVICE THAT YOU ARE TRACKING FROM. I used to have multiple midi WORKSTATION devices connected to protools via USB plus The Akai mpc via 5PIN MIDI CABLES. This MAY confuse the daw and will result in conflicting midi read errors. I hope this works for you because tracking just the audio is cool,but it’s always good to track in the associated midi as well,for the sake of further composing and LAYERING sounds from VSTs. Great video tutorial though bro,you showed me a good way to track audio without multitracking setup with multiple cables. I Learned a lot here. “BUZZ”, EPITOME RECORDINGS-NYC.
