Bolsa Chica Jetties Orange County California is located on the south end of its State Beach with-in the city limits of Huntington Beach.
Original known as “Tin Can Beach” the jetty tidal outlet was carved out late August 2006 connecting the Pacific Ocean with the Ecological Wetland Reserve.
Not only did it create a great shaped peak for surf, especially best the first few years as the sand was piled far outside.
Since then not quite as good and pronounce, but still can be an awesome place to surf mostly winter months hitting the best!
Long period W and WNW swells do very well here.
S SSW swells can be good, but needs much larger size to make it in the Catalina Island shadow window.
Usually much bigger as you head south summer months towards Huntington Pier and even Newport Beach area.
Fishing is actually fairly good here also, corbina, halibut, white sea bass, perch, croaker, leopard sharks, along with some others have been caught near this tidal outlet year round.
Always seems to have at least some rideable surf, but when not- the wetlands are a very nice walking experience with many types of beautiful birds, plants, and scenery.
The main state beach does have overnight camping in the parking lots, with even night time entertainment til 10pm mostly summer at Sealegs on the north end.
In this video is a semi rare event where very hard straight offshore NE winds combined with a decent size W swell.
Normally winds in winter are light offshore mornings turning light to moderate onshore W afternoon.
The water temp this day was about 56 degrees, air temp about 65, although it did feel a little colder with a wind chill factor, but not bad as NE Santa Ana winds are usually surprisingly warm due to compression coming over the mountains to sea level.
Free parking here is not the best as either a yearly State Pass or daily fee required.
Some people park up at a small free available area on Seapoint St almost a mile walk, or Huntington Street 1.2 miles to the south, or pay meters at the Cliffs. Some ride their bike on the coastal trail.
That does cut the crowds down in the line up though especially around Seapoint which can get good there also year round.
