Crazy stuff, mad respect for everyone sending it that day. And say what you will about JOB, but he's killing it out there, squeezing into those barrels like he's surfing backdoor pipeline. Also, let's take a brief minute to admire Blair's versatility as a waterman. Love the guy. Would've loved to watch this spectacle from the beach!

JOB is king at this kind of wedging barrel as he pretty much owns pipe. Not surprising he squeezed out the wave of the day !

I think the Wedge is more of an equaliser here. He got a few pits but, at pipe he'd be dominating. At the wedger he's just another guy eating shit 90% of the time

I hear you guys talking about Ocean Beach in San Francisco. Im from Dana Point, so I grew up surfing in south county back in the 80s. I went to school in San Francisco, so one day in 1989, I decide to go surf a swell at Ocean Beach....I paddle out by myself, get pounded in the impact zone trying to paddle out by four 10 to 12 footers, and I mustve been 30 feet down easy by the pressure I felt on my ears. Somehow, I held my breath for what seemed like minutes, and made it to the surface. I almost didnt make it that day, and I was the only one out so nobody wouldve known. Ocean Beach is a gnarly break....and NEVER surf alone.

I grew up in Newport. I've seen every bomb of a swell go off since 1993 and only one time in I think '98 or '99 have I seen consistent sets this huge. Weirdly, I got way way way better at snowboarding in 5 seasons than surfing in 15. I'm also petrified of sharks so the fear is distracting. I got hit by a tiger shark in Oahu when i was 19 and it kinda fucked my relationship with big blue up a bit. Great video.

When I was just a kid in the 60s it was all bodysurfers, all day. We had a place up the peninsula about a quarter mile and learned to bodysurf in some really wicked shore break. The old guys at the wedge took many of us under their wing. Those guys were really watermen and skilled in anything ocean related. I live in Hawaii now but I really miss this place.
@gerrylavelle84334 жыл бұрын
Me, too. I body surfed the wedge in the 60's. I remember how the face of the wave would wall up like an elevator at the shore and you'd be looking down at sand when you dropped in for the ride. Those Wedge waves would just beat you up so bad -- but that's what the fun was.

You'd drop down the wave face looking like you were going to hit the bare sand but then the wave would pop some water out like a cushion at the last minute. You had to be able to hold your breath while getting pounded by the wave closing out. I live in southwest Florida now-a-days and there are just the tiniest waves unless a storm hits.

The wedge needs to have a lot of South in it in order to be magic. The more west the harder it is to get those magic, glorious rides, and the more dangerous it gets because it wants to push you into the jetty, if you wipe out near the corner, and down the line, it wants to close down the cylinder section on you as you are coming out of the main bowl. If it's south-south-east, that's when you see guys get the long shots from the corner, all the way through cylinders, which is rare but epic when it happens.
