Hello everyone and welcome back to the channel and the second video in my Bolt Action Deutsches Afrika Korps hobby blog. Since the last update I took a few weeks to work on something completely different before starting the second stage of my DAK project.
In the last video, link below in the description, I outlined the list and theatre selector that I had chosen for my DAK and had completed a schutzen squad, an SDKFZ/251, a medium mortar team and the first Panzer IV.
Since then I have now added a light artillery piece, a higher officer team, a forward observation officer, a captured universal carrier and the Panzer IV command vehicle.
In this video I will show you exactly how these are looking, how they were completed and what you can expect in the next video.

Thanks Dario, much appreciated! I think my favourite part of this was kitbashing the crew for the LeIG. It took quite a while to get them looking how I wanted them to fit but was definitely worth the extra effort 😃👍

Great kit bash! That light howitzer is seriously amazing! Also, a big Thank You for reminding me that the LMGs in the DAK box were MG34s! I was going crazy looking for a spare MG34 for an early war project and forgot I had the DAK in the pile of shame. Nice assist!

Thanks James! As I was going to be using the light artillery from the Blitzkrieg box I knew that a kitbashed crew was always going to be on the horizon but I was super happy with how these turned out. Ahhhh yes! I've been digging through old sprues and bits boxes on the hunt for MG34s to use as kitbashed gunners 😃

Thanks Darrin, much appreciated! I think I probably need to keep notes of all the bits and pieces that I use with these kitbashes as I often forget just exactly what kit that arm or weapon came from! Always enjoyable though 😃

Cheers Martin, much appreciated! It took me a little while to eventually settle on a colour scheme as I had done quite a bit of research and saw that people had painted theirs in many different ways. For me though, the Russian Uniform Green has really worked and given me the faded look I wanted 😃

Very impressive update Ste. I think you have the colour schemes spot on. I love the kit bashing which produces some really interesting figures. I’m making my way into British and German forces for Tunisia and Italy in 20mm - 1/72 scale in a nostalgic trip back to my youth, but with AB and SHQ etc rather than Airfix. Having recently moved up to Scotland and downsized, my wargame room won’t be ready until next year and I’ll expect to be playing solo. Your outstanding work on the Warlord stuff is certainly very tempting though 🙄😁 Look forward to seeing more. Cheers Keith

Thanks Keith and I hope that the move went well! I was super happy with how these turned out, just need to get round to adding some vehicles at some point. Recently I've seen a big interest in 1/72 and 20mm. It's not really a scale that I've ever worked or gamed with so may be something new for 2023 😁

looks amazing - kudos question on the basing: how did you do it, zandri dust?
@OnPointHQ
@OnPointHQ Жыл бұрын
Thanks John, much appreciated! With the cork basing I prime it with brown and then paint it with a mixture of Vallejo Khaki, Green Ochre and Iraqi Sand before applying a brown wash across the entire base. For highlights I use the original mixture and then use Vallejo Off White to very lightly drybrush the rough edges of the base 🙂

Awesome paint job! What shades did you use?
@OnPointHQ
@OnPointHQ 2 ай бұрын
Cheers Stewart, thank you! The main colours I used with these were Vallejo Russian Uniform for the tunic, Vallejo Khaki for the trousers and webbing and Vallejo Green Ochre for the helmets, bread bags and ammo boxes. For washes I use a mix of Vallejo Sepia and Black and rather than apply it to the whole figure, I tend to drop it directly into the recesses, creases and folds etc. For highlights I added Khaki to the Russian Uniform Green and Off White to the Khaki and Green Ochre. Hope that helps! 😃👍

Hi Ste, I know your a big bolt action fan so I was wondering if I could pick your brains, I'm adapting bolt action to be playable with 20mm Star Wars minis, the clones work fine as regular infantry with just 1 or 2 tweaks but I've run into a problem with the droids - I want there 'base reaction' to be to move and shoot - in other words I want their options to be more limited. So I need to find someway of making it harder for droids to do things other than move or shoot. I was thinking maybe giving a droid a different order costs 2 order dice but that might be too restrictive, any help appreciated! Lovely Africa Korps btw.
@OnPointHQ
@OnPointHQ Жыл бұрын
Now that's a really pretty interesting concept! I can certainly see how you are trying to make the droids work. I guess a simple way would be having them having to pass an order test to carry out any order that isn't move or shoot. If they fail the test, their protocols have failed and the droid doesn't take any actions that turn. Hope that helps! 😀👍
