You have no idea how thankful I am for this. Especially as I literally have 1 game and trying to teach my friends....

Got most of these, few 'almost but not quite'. the flat roof is a great one. I have only ever seen, heard or played 1 plunging fire incident at events in 4 years! Very rare. But that piat team worked hard for it!

I have also done a tank assault vs a building once before at a tournament. there was an infantry squad between my Churchill 3 and a small building with his officer team and so i charged through the infantry into the building and destroyed it. the squad also failed their morale check, it was fantastic and there were a few new players there who didn't even know this was something they could do and got the chance to see it.

Having my own desert board with lots of buildings I've spent a lot of time reading through the building rules. Funnily enough the only rule I got wrong was the very first one about all models having to make it within 1" of the building. I guess my opponents and I always just assumed we knew how to move into buildings never bothered reading through that paragraph.

Some more great insights from both of you. Concur with your conclusion that one can't leave a building from anything but the ground floor (outside of it being on fire) - not only is the equivalent distance of the floor never mentioned, but also no specific rules stating you can do anything like it. p.122 "The unit must be on the ground floor and must be ordered to Advance or Run.". My reading of that would be you need to firstly be on the ground floor, then be given the order, since it says must be ordered, rather than must already have advance/run orders (i.e. the action of giving the order rather than simply already having it and be in the middle of the advance/run's movement). And yeah, the rules do also imply that it works best with 6x6"-ish sized buildings, or divisions thereof like you mentioned they do in your tournaments. Although 15" church preacherman Major does sound cool.

I was hoping you'd discuss the timing of a possible second option of going down in buildings vs. HE. "If you score a hit, this means the shell has managed to find - or make - an opening. The unit inside that floor of the building suffers a number of hits equal to the ‘damage in buildings’ value in the HE chart for that shell (D3, D6, 2D6 or 3D6). If the unit has not taken an action yet this turn, it can declare it is going down before you roll to determine how many hits are caused - in which case the hits are halved rounding up." There is an argument for allowing a unit waiting to go down until AFTER the HE has rolliled to hit the building, but before the number of hits are rolled. Thoughts?

I firmly believe in the shooting sequence that states target reacts after shots declared, but before dice are rolled

Great show. Our gaming group generally play roofs to buildings as open terrain unless there is a lip on the building that gives cover or if your guys are using the peak of a roof as cover from a direct fire weapon. (But the peak does not providing cover if fired at from behind and not able to jump over the peak as if hopping over liniar cover)

First and foremost, thank you very much! We are a group of friend playing for some months and we were trying to figure out a lot of these situations. Now my question: when firing HE against an unit/team in a builging: do I have to be able to see any model from the unit itself or an opening in the floor where they are?
@boltactiontutorialsbybomor384610 ай бұрын
an opening

Thank you very much for deciphering this complex part of the game this is very helpful. I have a question that was not treated there I think: i was used to fire at occupied buildings with heavy howitzer with the clear intent to destroy it. But on some FB groups people told me that it is forbidden, and that only empty buildings can be targeted this way. So, is there a clear rule that stipulates this, or is it just the fact that when you issue a fire order, in needs to be against a unit unless otherwise specified ?
@boltactiontutorialsbybomor384610 ай бұрын
if there is a unit in the building the you are shooting at the unit, if the building is empty then you can shoot at the building
@andersolsen323710 ай бұрын
So, if a sniper and a spotter can’t be on the same floor of a building, then that goes for the roof as well, as per the earlier discussion, that the roof, regardless of shape, count as a floor(level) of the building?

depends on your agreement with the opponent

But plunging fire has no advantage with armored all the way around vehicles as they still have to take in the primary/ forward DV value so a Char B it would be DV 9 for top instead of 8 like most other armored rated vehicles and DV 10 against KV-1 and 8's. Only heavy and super heavy tanks/ vehicles can assault buildings you have 2 dice for wooden/ soft material and 3 dice for concrete/ brick hard material and you take the DV of the vehicle so say 10 then roll a dice and what ever you roll you add it to the DV of vehicle then you have your opponent roll the building dice and if they out rolls you the building stands and stops the vehicle at the wall it touches, if not then the vehicle stops on the ground floor and the building then becomes rubble and also just like a HE hit against buildings it kills all units inside said structure. I do this with my Brummbar, Stug 33B and JSU-152 all the time if for some reason after 2 rounds I still have not even got a single hit against a unit inside said building. Also has to be a run order placed by said vehicle. There is one exception that you can deploy tanks in buildings and that is the Campaign book of Mariana & Palau book scenario 11 slow progress you can put Japanese tanks in straw huts to make them hidden just that they do not get any cover benefits
