You should drill out the internal restrictor port on the XJ high pressure coupler. If you look at the inside of the WJ coupler, it's a much larger diameter than the XJ coupler. The restrictor on the XJ coupler can be safely drilled out to match the WJ coupler's internal diameter for even better flow. Also, heater hose isn't oil or pressure resistant since it's designed for coolant vs hydraulic fluid. 1/2" transmission cooler hose is a much better application for this. Power steering fluid won't break down trans cooler hose and it will withstand up to 400psi.

I used the Edelmann elite power steering filter for a step down from 1/2” to 3/8” return line. I used your advice on the Edelmann 1/2” hose. It worked perfectly. I only used maybe 4” of it, but no one in town had 1/2” power steering hose. Then I just used the old 3/8” hose from box

After I did the Durango steering box upgrade, i have seen that it may not be a true upgrade, I have been very happy with mine, but supposedly it has bronze bushings instead of roller bearings for the sector shaft. Also, I found a minimal loss in turning angle at full turn but that isn't really an issue for me. The tires rubbed the LCAs a little at full turn, so that was almost a plus. Just wanted to mention what I found with my install. There is a lot of information online.

@6:08 heater hose definitely does not work the best. It swells and turns into goo when used with trans fluid (and motor oil). Then when it starts to leak the cooling fan blows it all over the rest of your rubber components ruining them as well, motor mounts, cab, and inner sidewall of your tire. Worst part is that liquid rubber slime will get on your skin anyime you reach into the engine bay making working on your car miserable as no amount of scrubbing gets it off your skin. Spend the extra money and buy the transmission cooler hose rated for atf.

@wjonthetrail
@wjonthetrail Жыл бұрын
You can drill the hole a little bigger but be careful not too much or you will lose your pressure Only increase by a 1/8” of a inch overall diameter But the best results will come from just adding a shim underneath that spring increasing the pressure a thin washer works wonders Then I would recommend a cooler be placed in line As you will be working the pump harder creating more heat The cooler will help and give you a little more volume of oil to work with

So what I did was screw in one of the tiny adapters into the pump then screw the larger stud with the end for your wrench over the top of the smaller one. Then you screw the "nut" looking piece all the way down till it hits the pulley. Slap a socket on it like the video making sure to use a screwdriver to stop the pulley from spinning and giver the beans to set the pulley. I hope this makes sense. If not drop me an email nextweeksadventure@gmail.com and I'll try to send pics to you.

If it was mine I'd start by verifying spark at the plug on cyl 3. And work my way back to distributor. Could be a bad plug gap or loose plug wire. If all checks ok now your checking injectors. Unhook injector wire harnesses at injectors and see if idle changes and check for correct voltage.

@@nextweeksadventure yeah it's a 4.7 V8 , and I got rid of that bull crap stupid dumb over heating piece of junk garbage --- okay I'll stop. I put a clutch fan and a electric fan on it and got better gas mileage ironically lol , basically I blew up my power steering pump stuck on a mountain on a cross country trip when I desided to deviate off the garmon trail and I was stuck and doin the wiggle to get out of the snow and the pump locked up on me so I drove literally 3000 miles without power steering and no radiator fan , so I went back to a steel pulley xj pump (that wouldn't shatter on me on a mountain)

@@nextweeksadventure fun fact a zip tie across the crank pulley to the water pump will last you exactly 30 mi and then if he replace it it'll last another 30 mi on the highway

At first I said “modification doesn’t mean bolt on” And then I realized for an XJ this is basically plug and play so nevermind.

I'm seeing the same part number for 1999 and 2000 but different from 2001 and 2002 which are the same. which are you using all using ?

The 1999-2000 WJ has a mechanical radiator fan. The pump you want is from a 2001-2004 V8 Grand Cherokee, which has the hydraulic radiator fan.

Bolt on means take off and bolt new back on. Your title should say don't do this, there are better upgrades. I believe the Dodge Durango bolts right on and is a real upgrade and can run one ton axles. Look into that swap before committing to this one. I'm not sure but radiator hoses get soft when oil runs through them. I would check to make sure power steering fluid won't degrade the hose. Also I've ran 6 years on 33's with my stock power steering pump. It's my daily driver and rock crawler. Been to Moab many times, I've got 4.56 gears, lockers, the whole package. I have not needed to make the upgrade. When I do I'll look into the Durango upgrade. If it's not broke don't upgrade with iffy KZbin I need a video this week recommendations.

I believe the swap your talking about is the Durango gear box swap. The power steering pumps are not the same so thats not a option. The power steering pump swap I did is exactly what bolt on according to your definition is. Old broken unit off new better unit on. I also made a follow-up on my mistake with the hose. I make videos to show people ideas for their own projects and help them make decisions on what route they wish to take. Nice try showing up to shit on my channel but you can keep floating down the stream trolling along. 👍

So the oem replacement pumps between the 92 and 98xj are different. I think its something to do with the pulley and you will need to swap them onto new pump. Maybe if you get the newer upgraded pump off the grand Cherokee v8 and also get a pulley from a 98xj I6 it would work?? I'm not 100% on it so keep your receipts in case it doesn't work out. But in theory I sound like I'm on to something...
