I stop at that Flying J just about every time I make the run from Detroit to Atlanta. I could easily have missed that installation the last time, but that appears to be new this year. That is the perfect configuration: covered, pull through, with 24/7 amenities.

Absolutely! Something like $.89 per minute, though. I was happy I had credits to use. But yes, even an EV towing a trailer could charge there in a rainstorm, and Denny’s is just a short walk away.

Love the new Flying J location you showed. The price is outrageous. Hope to see these opening up everywhere, but they need to get the cost under control. Loving the road trip!

@shutterguy8084 inventories are low right now, and it remains to be seen when GM will start making the 2024s. I wish you good luck in finding one.

First off. Thanks for posting your trip. It is fun to follow along with you. As I said in your part 1, I too took a road trip in my hybrid. So for comparison purposes, here is my part 2. When we left off, I had made it from Apache Junction Az, to Parker Az, where I bought 4.6 gallons of gasoline at $5.18. $23.83. I drove 252 miles. Now part 2. There is an EA station in Needles, Ca. This is co-located by the City of Needles level 2 free charging station, that I have used for the last 3 years on this trip. I stopped here for breakfast at McDonalds, and a recharge. My battery in my car is only 10kw. So in about one hour and a half, I can refill from empty. I don’t ever buy gasoline in this town because it is always $1.50 more per gallon here than in Arizona. But wait! There’s more. This trip, the gas price for premium was $7.99 per gallon!!! A difference this time of $2.78 more per gallon in CA. My puny little 5.3 kWh recharge was free, but would ordinarily cost about $2. Here in California, having an EV or a PHEV makes a lot of sense at $8 a gallon gas. From Needles, I drive to Tehachapi, Ca, across the Mojave Desert. About 297 miles. It is time for another meal, as I have now been on the road for 10 hours since leaving home in Arizona. At Tehachapi, the ChargePoint is located in the Denny’s parking lot, so it’s time for a break, while I recharge the car, and fuel it at the Shell station next door. $7.16 per gallon, 7.7 gallons, $55.13 & 6.3 kWh used for a total of $3.07. I will drive the remaining 319 miles in 5 hours non stop to get to my final destination in Sacramento. My trip will take 16 hours total, and I will average 45 mpg. 866 miles. No motel.

I have a 2019 bolt premiere - the bolt was first introduced in Germany in 2012 and sold as the Opel Ampira - GM sold Opel in 2017 to Renault - so in reality the bolt is a German car also

As a matter of curiosity, I've noticed some folks rarely charge over 80 percent because it gets so slow after that. Is that your general experience as well? Thanks for sharing!
@SpinnerEV Жыл бұрын
Yes. Our car slows down after about 55%, so on road trips we only charge enough to get the next charger. Saves some time that way
