in case 2 - Out-of-Plane Eccentric Shear Load - why do we assume h/7? (AISC uses h/6 as 1st stab) if the vertical leg is (for example - h=12" . with 3 bolts equal space/distance h/7 - = 1.7 . this puts compression below last bolt -meaning all 3 bolts in tension....thank you in advance - maybe illustrate iterative procedure to locate NA with moment of inertia tension and compression bolts?

isn't it just a different code where the. factor of safety is less? h/6>h/7? once you incorporate a factor of safety it inherently loses accuracy. The safety becomes more probabilistic. Does this make sense?

why are we taking resultant about the above extrem bolt? if you take combination of force about lower extreme bolt it will b greater as cosine for these forces is greater? why not take this bolt as critical

sir, In number of bolt calculation you are consider exernal moment only but direct shear due to p not consider ,why sir?

why the force proportional to the radial distance

So after one year have you got the answer? As I am also searching for the same thing.

Bez that is tortional shaer force , and from T/j =t/r,(t >tau ). Torsional foce came into action due to moment.
@shivamsharanlall672
@shivamsharanlall672 4 жыл бұрын
@@chandreshvaryadav1583 I thought a lot about it. As per my thinking if you take 2 situations. First when there are 5 bolts in the connection at radius "r1" and then a second situation when 5 bolts are there at radius "r2". r1 < r2, then what do you think F1 > F2 or not? The bolts are equally spaced.
@shivamsharanlall672
@shivamsharanlall672 4 жыл бұрын
Since P*e = Summation( F1*r1) = Summation (F2*r2) Also F1/F2= r2/r1 > 1 So F1 >F2

When you combine the two bolting condition together such that 5 bolts at r1 and 5 bolts at r2 then then more twisting force is absorbed by bolts at r2 than at r1.

Why tesion above the N.A and compression below the N.A?

load is acting downwards,eccentrically to connection(here bolts) causes bending action to the gusset plate. so the portion above na hve tension and below na have compression

Sir is right... actually its all about how you conceive it...the resultant will be the diagonal of parallelogram formed by the two forces.. so simply you can shift that "theta" outside by considering parallel side of F2 force....both will give same result! secondly if you see the cos@ will only be negative when @ is higher than 90 degree. Hope you got it!!
