Just purchased a Rad Rover, been looking at E Bikes for about a year, and with your review , & many more , I bit the bullet & purchased one. I plan to use it to go from a boondocking site into to a town for supplies, & ride the trails. I purchased the Rad Rover because it is one of the few that will accept your large battery pack, which I intend to buy, along with your upgraded controller. I realize those upgrades will void my warranty, but I'm fairly mechanically minded, & have worked on bikes over the years (I'm 72). All ways glad to see a younger person create their own world like you have. Kudos ! The Bohemian Sojourner

Thanks for this informative video. My charger just stopped working after only 3 years , thus I just ordered another one today. Hopefully, it will work, as I just realised how many different ones are out there. I don’t have the standard e-bike plug, evidently. It’s a barrel type, and is 10 mm, as opposed to most others, which are 8. Sooo, I had to be extra careful about what to order. Fingers crossed.

After _only_ 3 years? 😊 I noticed an obvious drop in performance and discovered that the voltage after a full charge was only 50.4 volts. I've had my bike 7 months. The charger is only producing 49.9 volts on my multimeter. The online place I bought the bike said it's the battery and wants to sell me one. I'm pretty sure a new battery won't solve the problem.

Thank you my battery is 29 or 30 ah (bought used) last really long but took forever to charge. I have basic ebike knowledge but this video really helped. My old battery that came with the bike was 8ah and would charge in 4hrs. I looked at your video and realized my charger was 2A. So I know now I need a 5A charger to reduce the time on my new battery. Question would a 42V 8A charger be good or bad for a 36v 29ah battery?

This is a super helpful video. My charger for my Yamaha ebike randomly doesn't light up that LED and the battery itself just flashes the lights (differently than normal) but doesn't actually get a charge. Any idea of how I might be able to fix it? Or where I can take it to get it fixed? The local bike shops near me don't seem to support Yamaha bikes and don't have expertise in batteries.

mine does too.. even my laptop battery gets hot.. I think the ones with the fans can dissipate the heat more and keep the charger cooler.
@seanrice7511
@seanrice7511 3 жыл бұрын
I think there is room for improvement in actively cooling the battery while it is charging. These batteries seem packed tight in these cases and as they are used, the heat builds fast. And instead of just plugging it in, maybe they should dock onto a charger that has a fan not only cooling itself but battery as well. Outdoor power equipment in the 48 to 60 volt range is the example I am referencing. They have thermal management and charging between 1 to 5 amps as part of their core design. Not sure how you keep a battery waterproof while also getting airflow into it though…

i just invested in a Cycle Satiator and a Cycle Analyst. I needed something that could help me better control how much engery i am putting in my battery and monitor how much energy my battery has left. I had one of those cheap chargers that came with one of my batteries and i think if over charged my battery which reduced the number of cycles i got out of it. I am also thinking it might have been a cheap BMS on the pack that might not be doing a good job of balancing the charge.

Informative video, thanks. I have a question, I have a WAU S ebike and the charger isn't working. The company is in the UK, I am in the US, and they don't sell a charger for my model bike/battery combo. I can find plenty of chargers on Amazon to match the 54.6V/4A, but it has a unique charging plug. A 3 pin almost circular connector (think of a flat tire - round except the flat part). I assume this is for proper alignment for the 3 pins to plug into the battery. Can I just buy a new charger and swap out the charging cable (that is wired inside the charger)? I am not an electrician, but I have some common sense. I just don't know where my thought might be faulty. Thanks

Don't waste your money. Not that the product is bad, it isn't, but today most eBikes and chargers communicate before they will charge , and if this communication doesn't occur, no charging. I have 3 eBikes and a scooter, and know how many this will charge? NONE. The scooter uses a diode so the battery voltage can only go "in" and in this case the charger won't start because it has to "see" the battery voltage before starting, and it can't. So I have a $300 paper weight.

Hi great video BTW. I have 2 36v Li Batteries, one at 8Ah on my Ancheer ebike that came with bike. The other 36v 10Ah as backup battery. Both chargers same 42v output voltage and 2Amp each and same charge plug. The thing is the bike came with a 3 prong grounded plug and the other with 2 plug 🔌 no ground. Each charge both batteries but when out riding hard to find street outlets with 3 prong plugs. So I take the 2 prong plug, is there any reason or issues why 3 vs 2 prong chargers have on the battery packs?

I have a battery that is 48V and on it it says that I should have a charger that is 54.6V 3A but the problem is finding a charger that has the right connector. I bought one that was dc contact and it was too small. The dimensions of the charging connection in the battery are 8mm in diameter and the hole in the middle is 2.1mm. I've found a few different ones, but I'm not sure if it's right. What should be considered before I buy again?

Hi from the UK, good video thanks. I always charge up to 100%, range matters most to me, if the battery does not last as long, well I do not care too much. I can get 2500 good miles from a battery, and then get it recelled. Yes it may well go longer than 2500 miles, but range matters to me, I go long distances in remote environments. Thanks again for making the video, and if you want a T shirt in the UK, send me one.

My issue is that just recently my charger had been on the fritz, it started flickering red and wouldn't charge. I tried it today now the light stays blank. I can hear the surge of electricity but not working. What should I do? Either get new chord replace it or whole charger ? The charger for the dyu comes in two pieces. The box and the removable chord. Fast charging is hard on batteries. In the long run (no pun intended), it is cheaper to keep a second or third battery pack on charge while the working battery is being used. eBike battery packs can be expensive, and shortening their lifespan shortens the time between buying new ones.

In general, is it safe to install a new battery with higher voltage, by one level, over the original battery voltage? For example, go from 24v to 36v, or 36v to 48v? Thank you for your videos!

Depends if your controller and motor can handle it, if they can, go for it!!

Great video, question, I thought a bike battery was good for let’s say 300 charges, I thought that was 300 charges from empty, if I only run it down to say a quarter empty, does that not mean I get 1200 charges. In your analysis. If I ride 10 miles and then charge the battery, that means I will only get, 300 x 10 miles 3000 miles out of my battery? Sorry for the long post.

I have a 52v 17.5ah battery arriving today from China (finally). It has a barrel connection. I'm comfortable with soldering, would you recommend I change it out to something more compatible with charging at 3+ amps? My next project is building a battery, so I am looking for any excuse to crack this thing open and verify the cells they used, bms, etc. Not worried about voiding warranty.
