Boltz LP Storage: First Thoughts on this Solution for Large Vinyl Record Collection Storage!

After a few months of supply chain issues, the Boltz Furniture LP Storage I ordered back in January for my Large Vinyl Record Collection Storage has arrived! This is a quick overview of the shipping delays, assembly and overall first impressions. Record collectors take notice - these are really nice, and really sturdy.

We looked at their site you provided and we simply did not want to chin that kind of money. Another concern we had was the customer service you experienced. No matter what, we won’t put ourselves through that-chasing a vendor for answers. We’ve been collecting again since 2012. Right out of the gate, we’ve used Better Homes & Gardens cubicles(Rustic Gray)and they’ve been fabulous! Sturdy, low cost and no static. We cannot recommend them enough. Thanks for your post and for the sub! They are definitely expensive, and the customer service was straight-up dreadful. But the quality and the look really is top notch and I'm still very happy with them. Probably even moreso now that I've got some time between the expenditure and the run-around. I still have plenty of room to grow into the configuration I have, and I've actually slowed down my acquisition pace recently - which isn't easy when your neighborhood record shop is Easy Street Records in Seattle. But I don't plan on needing to add on to this configuration for at least a couple more years - I've actually identified more titles I'm willing to shed before expanding the shelving. Return lip on end-gables seem iffy - will they affect your records / jackets etc?

For this and a variety of reasons I’m in the market for something different. I’ve cut a piece of corrugated cardboard to protect the records from that - seems they could’ve inverted the shape and easily prevented that. Also, the rear stops could be attached to the shelf above instead of the lower shelf to prevent the possibility of ramming your records into the bolts and base when placing them back into the shelf. Lots of dumb decisions that weren’t immediately realized until after I had been using them.

Those look very nice my only concern is the span each shelf is I don't like having more than 60-70 records leaning on themselves. These seem to have a couple hundred ++

They’re 150 per shelf I believe, and there are additional supports you can get for the front edges that are sliceable and can act as dividers to separate.

@@av_nirvana I looked on their site 180 per shelf I am not concerned about the weight more about that many records leaning on the last few records but they do look clean I with they had them in silver rather than just black...everything is always black in the AV world LOL silver or white would be a nice option... but congrats looks nice!

@@EzaVinylAddict they can do many different color options, if you dig through their site. If capacity is 180 per shelf, I likely have about 150ish, so split that between leaning left and right and you’re right in your range of 60-70 leaning on each other. Add the dividers to split it even smaller.

They look very Heavy Metal. I have many metal records and these would be very matching for my collection. A few things of note from this. How does an Ikea shelf made of wood/glue create static? I'd love to know the science behind that. I've never had a charge touching wood... Another, you don't own a wrench?

The commonly used IKEA shelves contain no wood in the primary structure. They are a laminate over a honeycomb cardboard core. They are very much a dust magnet on their own. And I have a wrench, but didn't have it in the room when I first went through because they claimed no additional tools necessary over the included Allen wrench.

They've been great, especially since I took the casters off and sent them back. They were making things wobbly with that much weight on them. But now they're rock solid. Really happy with them.

@@av_nirvana Interesting regarding the casters. By doing so, did you obtain a new base for it? One that did not require the holes? Or, is the base the same with or without the casters? Thanks

The shelves came with little plastic plugs that go into the holes where the casters would mount, so I popped those in, and since we have concrete floors, I also added some little felt pads. Same base.

All over. Some I’ve had since I was a kid. A lot purchased used from record shops across the country. Some from discogs.com. I picked up a couple hundred from my old college radio station dirt cheap when they lost their storage - about a quarter a piece. Anything I buy new I try to buy directly from the artist websites, but that’s not always possible. So, I buy from all over.

Not a massive collection. A collection that is larger than the typical, well-built vinyl shelving units on the market. This has the advantage of being modular and growing with a collection. Most of the comparatively priced, nice-looking, stylistic shelves would only hold 1/2 or 1/3 of my collection, pricing them out of my range, but this is also in our living room, so I didn't want to build the typical homemade shelves that do the trick but are better for a dedicated room.
