AMAZING! My professor just threw out the words "Boltzmann's constant," gave us the value, and that's it. I had no idea what it was for or how it came to be until now! Knowing the how and why is so darn important, so thank you for giving me that.

I have to say I can't appreciate you enough for making a video explaining this, I'm just you're average Joe I didn't even graduate highschool to be honest it's really a blessingto be able to have this knowledge at my fingertips. I've just been interested in physics lately specifically astrophysics and it brought me here, I've been struggling with this but you explained it perfectly 👌 thank you so much!!

Thank you for taking the time to explain the variables. The majority of content creators start from the middle of the lesson. Great job!

Great explanation - I agree with all the folks who commented before ! I am in my late 40s. Electrical & electronics engineer. I used to hate equations, although I am always curious & like to understand them. Perhaps & probably, never had many teachers who has explained equations or derivations very well during my studies. Also I always skipped derivations & equations. This explanation is marvelous. Physics/Science is useless unless it can be explained in a simply way like this.

When calculating the boltzmann's constant, Na is (molecules/mole). I know the moles cancel out from the R constant but what happens to the molecules? Shouldn't the final units be Joules/Kelvin * molecule?
@dioptre3 жыл бұрын
its the number of molecules it has no units just a number.
@nightmare95973 жыл бұрын
The final unit is joule per Kelvin

Okay so how do explain radiation of heat by Sun? In this kind of transfer of heat there is no molecule striking and photon is massless. Also how you will explain heat transfer in a conductor? When you touch a hot iron rod you feel hot but the particles of iron shouldn't be moving in way by which it can strike your part of the hand yiu feel hot. Plz sir I will be grateful if uou explain me this

What is the ESSENCE of boltzman constant?!!
@carultch5 жыл бұрын
It is the R in the ideal gas law, except defined at the level of the individual molecule, instead of the "Chemist's dozen" that we call the mole. The units are cubic-meter-Pascals/Kelvin. "Cubic-meter-Pascals" eventually translates to Joules, the energy units.

S = k log W was never discovered by Boltzmann although it is often mistakenly attributed to him. It was the great Max Plank who coined the equation and evaluated the value of Boltzmann’s constant. Boltzmann had no clue neither about the constant not the equation on his tomb. You can look this up.
@lenmargolin48723 жыл бұрын
You take a definition and make a new definition. So what? I hoped you would tell us whether Boltzmann's constant is a fundamental property of nature, like Planck's constant or the speed of light. Indeed, the essence of the second law is that entropy is nondecreasing. The constant of proportionality is inconsequential.
