For me, the silking process is something I discovered accidentally while doing my own hair as a teen. I used to flat iron my hair and it would look stiff and dry and stick straight. SO I'd wrap it into a bun and put on a hat. The natural humidity from the heat and moisture of your head allows some moisture back into the hair that you robbed it of when straightening. (all that steam that evaporates from the strands.) So some moisture ends up back in the hair but slowly so it doesn't cause frizz. Then the hair ends up with bend and movement after.

Jewel Danyelle is right, and also... You know how on the 3rd day of a hair wrap, it looks perfect and the wrap falls exactly how u been wanting it to fall since the 1st day u got it?! Well, this technique gives u the look of the 3rd day of ur "perfect wrap" without actually waiting 3 days. Its pretty cool! Dont use heat (alot of it anyway) because that will cause ur scalp to sweat. So cool air is best.

Believe it or not the conair infiniti pro flat iron works so good you don't need a hot comb it gives me so much shine while using the heat protector .... My hair is curly& thick..ive been using the flat iron for 5+ years.... This comment was not to put down hot combs I love them just sharing my experience.. In my country we call the wrap a tubi, it just maintains the hair straight, but I wrap it and slowly add in Bobby pins, then sleep with a sewing cap. You have to take the Bobby pins out once you have the cap on your hair. My straight hair lasts weeks when I do this
