A ‘bomb cyclone’ weather system blasted the B.C. coast, leaving tens of thousands without power. Parts of Vancouver Island were lashed with hurricane-force winds of up to 170 km/h.

I’m not sure if your new to town but there is nothing out of the ordinary for this storm. I’ve lived here almost 40 years and can tell you it was underwhelming at best. Also the big rock gets tides up around it every year. More than once too. I’m glad you enjoyed it though.

@@JeremyDoesThings yes the tide comes up around the big rock every year. Also if your near the Quadra ferry then you will remember only a couple years ago when the tides were so high water came across to the entrance of Tyee plaza and so much driftwood covered the entrance to the ferry, Tyee plaza and the highway that it was down to 2 lanes instead of 4.

That is what it is called. has nothing to do with the weather channel. Instead of trying to be a troll,...... A bomb cyclone, also known as bombogenesis, is a midlatitude cyclone that intensifies rapidly over 24 hours. The exact amount of pressure drop required to classify a storm as a bomb cyclone depends on the storm's latitude. For example, at 60° latitude, the central pressure must drop by at least 24 millibars in 24 hours.
