How I made this fancy little chest, with Bombé-style sides and veneered with marquetry. Inspired by boxes made by Abraham Roentgen in the 1760s.

Very, very nice! The trick to install a molding on the corner is brilliant, especially since veneer on 90 degrees a corner tends to chip.

Huh my first though upon seeing the bombè shape was that it would be a panel that was shaped and put to ribs on the inside instead of a solid piece cut to shape on the outside. Same with clamping the veneer; i expected to see sandbags or a matching curve to sandwich it, that vacuum looks fantastic to use. Great video!

Thanks! I think if this was a full-sized chest I would do it as a bent lamination of thin layers of wood.

I'm amazed at what you do with basic tools. And you are my new hero for using a BT3000. It was my first table saw and everyone laughed at me for buying it instead of a cabinet saw. I recently retired it to the garage but can't part with it.

Great video and very impressive piece 👍🏻 you’ve really made a project like this, which otherwise would seem dauntingly difficult, approachable to attempt. Really keen to try and integrate these highly decorative techniques now that you’ve somewhat demystified them 🙂🙏
