Here's something scary. We have the technology, right now, to do one of these asteroid attacks. Several world governments are sufficiently funded and have the means to build interplanetary probes. Probes that could over enough time accelerate a space rock into an impact trajectory with earth. ...and within the next few decades there will be private companies that can do the same thing. Scarier still. Our ability to detect rogue asteroids is pretty bad and unlike the show we have no means to defend the planet from an asteroid strike. Right now that's not a big deal because space programs and space craft are PROHIBITIVELY expensive to create and maintain. But as space travel privatizes and matures there will come a point where it gets MUCH easier to get outside our own atmosphere... An attack like what Marcos perpetrated may not stay science fiction forever...

But in reality we can only barely get a brobe to go same direction next to asteroid and succesfully landing is wery hard. Currently we have no ability to prevent meteor from hitting earth even with years of advance warning. Ofc we cant be even certain it would hit that far a way. Sadly we lack the epstein drive to do any significant space travel hauling large masses. Edit. Theoretically that would be possible but would require engines which dont create detectable reaction blast. Otherwise with size required it would be big. By the time we could pull that stunt, we should have reasonable detection ability distributed thorough the solar system, so no luck blasting only when behind the sun.

Actually, this is one of the most unrealistic things that happen in the Expanse. Earth and Mars ordering ALL of their ships away is just stupid if you think about how many ships the UNN has and how many defense systems are in orbit around earth

Earth and Mars decommissioned a large portion of their fleets after the end of the UN-MCR War. They didn’t have that many warships left by the time of the Free Navy conflict.

I wonder why couldn’t they just have used the planetary railguns cause even with stealth coating they still could be seen through sensors like the battle of donnager, those stealth ships were detected despite being stealth, and were destroyed by donnagers guns

Some admiral in season 3 said something like "Its extremly hard to detect martian stealth tech for OUR SENSONRS (speaking about missile platforms)." Soo i would assume since its martian tech Donnagers sensors were much more advanced and were able to see those ships. But I think they detected them after they started theyr engines (not sure about that)... Also in the books after consolidated fleet was created they mentioned some ships found and destroyed another asteroids heading to earth since that attack last for maybe months. Sooooo my point is Martian sensors could detect stealth ships but "weaker" UN couldnt.

Using railguns wouldn't have solved the problem. If they could have acquired a target lock, all they would have done is make a big rock on a collision course with earth into an equally massive collection of small rocks on a collision course with earth.

@@paynepersons6147 breaking up asteroids into small enough pieces makes them harmless. The pieces will vaporize at reentry. This is why, once they linked their anti stealth satellites to their asteroid spotters, the asteroid attacks were rendered useless as they could now easily destroy them before they reached earth

@@hanz5555 No, ships with stealth only work when their drives are off. Once you light up your drive half the system can see you. That's why donnager was able to see the Amun Ra stealth ships aproaching, but the stealth worked a bit by hiding their numbers. Donnager only expected 1 ship, while 6 ships arrived.

Let's spoil a little bit more :) They get to Azure Dragon in book 6... not 5... But maybe it could fit in Season 5 of Show... Who knows... I think they are probably going to speed up introduction of Free Navy in Season 4. Because Naomi had mentioned (not by name) Marco and Filip Inaros (she talked about her baby boy, she was forced to live), and that is not case in books before book 5. Also, they maybe cover some of games on the Mars , which leads to Laconians and Free Navy. And maybe we see Cortazar (novel The Vital Abyss). Bobbie will be probably deal with stuff on Mars. There is novel Gods of Risk, or they made up new story...

I mean in the books, since season 4 hadn’t released when this video came out, it was a staged theft as corrupt Martians gave them the intel to help them get the materials. Kinda like the Rebel sympathizer worlds “losing” Corellian Corvette shipments to the Rebel Alliance. Technically its a bit different, but the end result is the same, via illicit means they acquired highly sensitive technology and used it against Earth.

Earth got really f'd up in the Expanse. First, the show imagery indicated climate change increased sea levels, but this was just routine landscaping compared to what comes next. It almost gets hit by Eros, which would have been total game over. Then South America gets hit with a nuke bigger than the tsar bomb. Finally, it gets hit with three asteroids that are large enough to cause a nuclear winter.

Dont get me wrong I love the Expanse with all my heart and I love how accurate it is for basically everything but Earth being so incredibly, comically really, inept is a massive blunder. Also what in the George R.R martin is with these numbers, 15 billion dead?? (sidenote, mars going from 0 to 4 billion in less then 2 centuries is literally impossible but ok). I do also gotta say the amount of handwaving that was done the make this incredibly small faction completley disintegrate a combined force of nearly 30 billion is insane.

You skipped the part about the rogue Martian admiral who was assisting the Free Navy taking a huge chunk of the Martian fleet through the Gate. That diminished Mars' military capacity and threw them into political chaos. That was a big part of the Free Navy being able to control that "space between planets" and almost force Earth and Mars to stay in their own atmospheres.

Major difference in season 5: No hit in the Atlantic (= less tzunamis) and MUCH lower yield. Should only be only some millions death and no social collapse at earth.

First, considering the size of the shock waves on the satellite immages... I think that the yield is the same, EVEN if the press said 200 - 300 kilotons, second, I don't know if they hit the atlantic or the pacific, but they did hit an ocean, so tsunamis are gonna happen for sure, and third, half of earth's government is dead, so it looks like there is gonna be a collapse regardless.

From the books Inaros is a one dimensional villain, with his introduction in season 4 he is actually my wonderful anti hero, not really a villain at all.
