gavsays.com: Different bits apply different pressures to a horses mouth, and produce different results... but all depending on the horse.
In this video learn what Bomber Nels' philosophy is when bitting a horse and distributing pressure correctly - depending on the horse.
You'll also learn how different pressures will create a different result for sensitive horses.

Fantastic info. I wish this was more common knowledge in the horse world. First I heard of it, and I have been working with horses for quite some time. How do bitless bridles and hackamores compare? There is of course a huge range when it comes to hackamores as well, but I would love to learn more about the physics of them.

Nel’s philosophy is pressure=resistance and resistance=lack of control (I’m assuming Nel means lack of control over the horse).

Gav, I have a mare with very very good mouth, but it seems she is tongue sensible, I have put a Pelham on her and she is constantly trying to put her tongue over the bit. So what type of bit would you try on her? I put a single brake one last match but thought it could be too much, as she has a very good mouth. By the way, your videos and explanations are great. Greetings from Argentina

I heard the theory of a horse's stride going to its nose 30 years ago. I have never been able to justify it with the world of photography. Just look at photos of dressage horses in extended trot. Look at a racehorse walking beside a handler who is pulling it back. In such circumstances, the front hooves are a good distance in front of the muzzle. Isn't it time this "theory" is put to rest? The way I see it, other stuff you say, may have a great deal of merit, but gets tainted by visual inaccuracies such as this.

What muscle are used to bring the horses leg forward? Ie, move the humorous forward, towards the nose, and extending the limb? The main muscle is the brachiocephalic, omotransversarius, and cleidobrachialis. The brachiocephalic originates at the base of the skull and insert on the humorous. By basic biomechanics of the brachiochepalic muscles, the horses head position (vertical and horizontal) will dictate the degree of extension of the front limb. www.anatomystuff.co.uk/news/equine-muscle-anatomy-the-superficial-muscles-on-a-horse/

That’s pretty ignorant.. you must know nothing. Using a bit properly doesn’t cause any pain at all. You need to be educated.

Take away abuse from the equation. What you then have is a attitude that probably is not going to work in a world where horses are largely used for entertaining people or eating. You take the entertainment away and its down to eating. Of course liberty is the best but you imagine trying to teach everyone for every use of horses to start to do liberty. Its not going to happen. Being holier than thou is not going to endear people to the idea either.

All I can imagine is that you searched "horse bits" just to click on a video and complain. How many other vids did you copy and paste this to 🤣
