I think the eauclair debut of this song is the quintessential version. It's so raw and so powerful.
@aarond95637 жыл бұрын
Uhh I think they're both good. I think the live version sounds a bit more natural in the sense that you can here Justin's voice a bit more and the studio synthesized version isn't as low. I think you might be conflating the performance with the synth. I think the live version is just a really good performance!
@mynameismark255 жыл бұрын
do you know why? It's the "blues" live. It's impossible to be the blues on the album because it's been time gridded in protools. The timing in this live version is all fucking blues and that makes it human, even with the live pyrism thing. people love the blues man.
@jesusavello7485 жыл бұрын

The last line "God damn, turn around. You're my A-team" reminds me of the last lines of Prayer for Owen Meany when the narrator/protagonist John cries out to God to return his friend Owen from the dead... ""O God-please bring him back! I shall keep asking You." --- it is so visceral. It isn't pretty language, it isn't eloquent, it is deeply human.

@fartboy2877 жыл бұрын
People have been doing it for a while now I think Justin just found a new solution that lets you do it more efficiently in real-time Imogen did something similar once for Hide and Seek, but Justin did it for multiple songs in an album so that's probably why his more streamlined technique is getting traction TBH I wish there were more songs like Hide and Seek, she never really did the same sort of thing again. This song is the closest I've come across
@Soekell7 жыл бұрын
fartboy287 she's constantly doing innovative things with the handling of synthasizers and other computational music stuff. This was just one thing she experimented with. But that's true, some of her Innovations I guess are starting to get to the surface of music production, and other professionals like justin start to pic these innovations and put them to its stylistic limits.
@brookebirner43106 жыл бұрын
yes! i don’t remember which interview it was exactly but he said “hide and seek” influenced his song “woods” quite heavily!
@smeltnight20026 жыл бұрын
there's a difference in technology. Hide and Seek uses a vocoder - something that's been used since the 70s, so not a good landmark if we're talking innovation. Love the song though. This is a different process that can't be done in the analog domain like vocoding. It's software that digitally repitches harmonies to his voice based on a midi input. And it's not something they invented, that software has also been around for awhile. But they came up with an efficient way to do it live with low latency that not many people have.
