There were a LOT of rock bands writing power ballads in the 80s. It was like a rule or something. You HAD to have a power ballad on your album. Few could do it with the with the consistent greatness that Bon Jovi could, however.

It was a formula to sell albums. Record companies wanted bands doing at least one ballad. That's part of the reason why Night Ranger broke up before getting back together again.

@Mike Nastasi I just felt like it was kind of a forgotten song. But after looking at streaming totals from across all platforms in various countries, it's consistently the #1 listened to song from New Jersey and a top 10 song of theirs overall. In some lists, top 5. I guess I'm just so used to the Prayer/Bad Name/Wanted hype, that it seemed that way. All great songs, but I feel like IBTFY is kind of on another level than a lot of their work. Catchy like most of their tracks, but additionally beautifully arranged, soulful, and deep. Richie's blues style shines, as well as their superb harmonies. Jon shows a lot of range. I don't know. I guess I'm wrong, and just a fan of the song. Thanks for making me realize that.

@bryansimmons4550 Жыл бұрын
Richie Sambora's lead guitar and his high harmony vocals with Jon make this song......... as they do so many others. Sambora was the true heart and soul of the "Bon Jovi" band. Yes, John Bongiovi is the leader and the "lead singer" of the band, but listen to them sing separate lines, and Richie Sambora is truly the BETTER singer of the two. Richie's first solo album "Stranger in This Town" was as good as any Bon Jovi album. Bon Jovi without Sambora is like The Beatles without George Harrison. No one could exactly replace George, bless his soul.
