The acoustic version of this song will really knock your socks off. I saw them in concert a thousand years ago. When guitarist, Richie Sambora, walked out on onstage with a triple-necked Ovation guitar (mandolin, 6-string, 12-string), and played the intro to this song, I had a religious experience.

Two other Bon Jovi recommendations, if you want to appreciate his vocal range check out Living on a Prayer. The other is the theme song to Young Guns 2- Blaze of Glory (another cowboy western themed song) Oh, one more Have a Nice Day. Sounds innocent enough but think saying have a nice day with your middle finger raised high. Great song. I don’t remember for sure but Blaze of Glory may actually be Jon Bon Jovi without his band.

In terms of vocal range, his best song is "Bed of Roses" (the original studio recording). He can't hit that high note at the end anymore, so he lowered it for his live concerts in recent years.

The song is a homage to bon jovi's early touring days when they were doing 100s of live shows on world tours, night after night, travelling around on a coach day after day, night after night, and the crowd would want them dead or alive, no matter what, they had to perform. Sometimes they'd sleep, sometimes not for days, people they meet, go their separate ways. Tell the days by the bottle (whiskey) that they'd drink. Times when they're alone, all they can do is think. Seen a million faces, and they've rocked them all. It's the Bon Jovi anthem.

A common misconception about this song is that a ‘Steel Horse’ is a motorcycle, it typically is, in this case however, it’s a tour bus. The point of this song is to highlight the strains of touring, he’s Wanted Dead or Alive by the audience, like an old west outlaw going town to town, making no real connections, the life brings fame and hardship and the audience each night has no idea about the behind the scenes strain, it’s fresh to them. He has a ‘Loaded Six String’ on his back. That’s juxtaposing a guitar with a six-shooter western revolver.
@callmelyn735 жыл бұрын
I faintly remember an interview with Jon and he said that the “steel horse” referred to in the song was the tour bus. This song was a reflection of a time when they were on tour. If I remember correctly. It was a long time ago but the tour bus part stuck with me. Their song “Living On a Prayer” is considered to be one of the biggest songs to come out of the 80’s, not just the hair metal scene. Even people who didn’t listen to metal knew this song.

It was on the soundtrack for Deadliest Catch. It was also played on Supernatural tv show. The music is based on the acoustic guitar riff Sambora came up with. It is one of the first things many new guitarists try to play. The "guitar part sounding like Led Zepplin" comments makes considerable sense, as Richie Sambora absolutely idolized Jimmy Page (Zep's Lead Guitarist) trying to emulate and even improve on riffs JP taught him.

I saw Bon Jovi in concert in 1989 when I was 16 on their New Jersey tour and they were awesome, especially Richie Sambora! I grew up in Anchorage, AK and they were one of only a few bands back then that came to Alaska so we were psyched. They were only planning one show but they sold out three. Jon could still sing back then and it was a blast. My wife finally saw Bon Jovi in concert last year (without Sambora) and Jon’s vocals were crap with every song lowered and not even trying to hit the notes anyway. Sad. Enjoy exploring more Bon Jovi because they are hit machines who pumped out great rockin’ songs and heartfelt ballads. Some additional suggestions for rockin’ songs are Blood on Blood, You Give Love a Bad Name, Livin’ On a Prayer, Runaway, Bad Medicine, Lay Your Hands on Me, I’d Die For You, Blaze of Glory, and Wild in the Streets. Suggestions for ballads are Always, Never Say Goodbye, Born to Be My Baby, I’ll Be There For You, Living in Sin, Bed of Roses, and Someday I’ll Be Saturday Night.
