Another nice video. 👍🏻 The pictures seem to be slightly overexposed at 400 ASA, but it looks good actually and brings out details in the shadows. The Lomography 400 film performs better than I expected.

It’s pretty good for what it is~ I like it 😂 I also prefer overexposing/exposing for the shadows so I can get a flat (but not too flat) look rather than having striking shadows when I edit my photos most of the time 😋

A very nice video & sample photos. A big plus for the Ilford is having a viewfinder. While a person could probably get sharper photos from a $100 smartphone the screen visibility would be terrible in bright sunlight. A big minus for film cameras in 2022 is the insanely high prices for the film and processing. Depending on where you live you might have to courier or post the film for processing - even more expense.

I cannot tell you how relaxing watching this video was! Awesome content and beautiful photos, love the compositions and the colors! I originally wanted to purchase the Kodak Ektar H35, but this video made me rethink. Any opinions on which camera to buy when mainly useing it for indoor pictures (when I'm with my friends) as well as sometimes outside when on a walk?
@Bonsees
@Bonsees Жыл бұрын
thanks! They're pretty much the same, except the Ektar H35 is half-frame so you get twice the amount of photo per roll of film (albeit with less quality). I think the film you use will affect how your images will turn out more than the camera. I tend to overexpose film with ISO 400 with the Ektar H35 outdoors, so maybe it'll be better indoors when using a 400 or 200 ISO film (haven't tested this). They both have a flash though, so that makes them both good indoors when taking photos of subjects up to 3-meters away

I showed this a bit on my video on the Vibe 501F, but always use the flash in-doors and in low light. If you’re outdoors with plenty of light, I suggest using it when your subject is backlit (i.e., the sun is behind your subject) or if the subject is in shadow

mine couldn't progress the roll after around 10, can't load a new one either I think the spring got loose, and there's no simple way to open the camera the winding mechanism has no slit, so the film just comes off buyer beware, I guess

New subscriber, love how you explain everything about the camera, I have a question and hope you can help, I’m thinking about to buy my fist film camera, I have 3 options, Agfaphoto, Minolta AFE or Kodak prostar 100, which one you recommend? Thank you
@Bonsees
@Bonsees 2 жыл бұрын
Out of these three, the Minolta af-e has the nicest lens. If you can find one in good condition, it’s the best out of the tree. Instead of the Prostar 100, check out the Harman EZ35, which you can get new. The problem with these old point & shoots is that they’re old (I think the Minolta AF-E is 30+ years old now) so their electronics are bound to break at some point. The Agfaphoto won’t give you the same image quality as the Minolta AF-E, though its new and doesn’t really need batteries to work. It’s a fun toy camera. Hope this helps

Hard to say, I like most of them… I’d say the Agfaphoto is my top choice atm… But really, the Ilford Sprite, Kodak M35/38, and Dubblefilm show are just as good Heck even the Lomography simple use is fine. The Yashica is ok too, I was a bit harsh on it because I had a bit of a higher expectation for it given its price and was disappointed haha It mostly boils down to which camera aesthetic I’m feeling at the moment 😅

@Bonsees
@Bonsees Жыл бұрын
Hey Declan, thanks 👋🏼 It’s hard to play favs but I’d say the one that I used the most is the Agfa Photo. Closely, I also like the Kodak i60 (haven’t edited the review video but it’s coming 😂). The Kodak Ektar H35 and Reto UWS are a bit different (half-frame and ultra-wide, respectively) but they’re nice too. Hope this helps. If you can’t get your hands on these, easily, the Kodak Ultra F9 and Ilford Sprite are also ok, they all pretty much have the same image quality so I’d suggest going for the easiest to get, the cheapest, or the one that appeals to you the most (aesthetically speaking 😅) Cheers!

@Bonsees

Helloooo, I have a question so I received my Ilford Sprite today along with my film (Kodak Ultramax 400) but it keeps getting stuck on S, also do I keep having to move the film advance wheel after every shot? It doesn't let me otherwise

@Bonsees

@@itsdavid658 yes, this is right. You have to manually advance the film each time 😅 you should check out the Harman EZ35 or old motorized point and shoot cameras if you prefer something a bit more automatic. hi bon, I've been looking for a reusable film camera and watched several of your vids. What do you mean in 12:15 when you said the agfa photo camera is better in terms of the viewfinder and distortion? Also which do you think is better between the Ilford sprite and agfa camera in terms of photo coloring, quality and saturation? Your pics from both vids look great so I can't decide!
@Bonsees
@Bonsees Жыл бұрын
It’s not too noticeable, but I find that my ilford Sprite had a more noticeable pin cushion distortion in its images than my Agfa. Both cameras have viewfinders that don’t show 100% of the image you’ll be capturing, but framing with the Agfa seemed better (I might just be biased though haha)

If the film rewind crank isn’t Turing but the number dial is, is the film not loaded correctly? can I open the camera to try and fix it or am I at risk of damaging the film ?
@Bonsees
@Bonsees Жыл бұрын
Does the film advance wheel stops and let’s you take photos? Or does it go on forever (as in it won’t ‘lock’ and you can’t take a photo). Sometimes, depending how the film is tightly spooled, the first few shots won’t turn the crank, but if it is incorrectly loaded, then the film advance wheel won’t cock the shutter and you won’t be able to take a photo (for this specific camera, at least). TLDR: If you advance the film and the shutter cocks and let’s you take a photo, then it’s ok, the more you do this you’ll start to see the rewind crank move too

The film rewind or the film advance wheel? The film rewind is supposed to just keep rolling, if the film advance wheel doesn’t stop and cock the shutter, it means the film wasn’t loaded properly (it didn’t attach to the take up spool)

That probably means the film didn’t catch on to the take up spool. This also means the shutter doesn’t “click” when you press it and the film advance wheel just keeps turning with no resistance. If so, open the back and reattach the film to the take up spool

@Bonsees

The maximum number that this camera will show is 36. If you use a roll that has less (like 24), once you reach around 24, you won’t be able to advance the wheel to the next photo anymore (sometimes it could be 26 depending on how you load your film). Once you can’t turn the advance wheel anymore, you’ll have to rewind the film. It won’t reset the counter, the counter only resets when you open the film door

The ilford sprite and Kodak f9 are pretty much the same, and the m35 is very similar (I think just aesthetic differences). They’re pretty ok for what they are. The Yashica is ok too but it’s more expensive than the others. But you’ll pretty much get the same quality with any of these… I’d say go for the one you get easily where you leave, or maybe be base it off price or aesthetics

I'm new to film in general so take my explanation with a grain of salt but from what I've seen once you get your film developed and get the pictures (this isn't something you can do unless you own a photolab) you take the pictures and scan them using apps with software to get rid of any light gear or for even better results you can get a film scanner (with the film scanner you would have to request the develop film from your film developer).....but perhaps the easiest way to get pics in your phone is to choose a film developing company that will send you "digital copies" to your phone... if this sounds like too much then digital might be better but admittedly there's a certain flare and organic feel to film pics that digital couldn't achieve without editing... (hope this helps and correct me if I'm wrong)

Too bad the old 126 cartridge cameras are gone. Also they used to have flash cubes activated by a plunger on the camera so you didn't need batteries.

They’re pretty much the same so I’d say either is good. This is cheaper (about half Show’s price on B&H) but Show has cute colours, if you’re into that 😅
