When Bonanza occasionally went against 'the authorities', as in here, it's always a sensitive issue with the plot vacillating between 'good and evil'. I noticed in these episodes, where the cavalry have 'a problem' with command, Ben Cartwright takes command at the end and the surviving troopers salute and say 'yes sir' to a civilian, albeit himself a veteran.

Sad how #MichaelLandon went, pancreatic cancer @ 54 yrs old, 91'. Will say he seemed to get the #most out of this brief lil span we have here on this ball. 9 children, married 3 times, started as a relative #unknown on #Bonanza . Think he may have had only few small roles, I was a Teenager Werewolf movie before landing the Little Joe role at 22yrs old. 14 yrs on Bonanza, then straight to 8 seasons of #LittleHouseOnThePrairie, then straight to #HighwayToHeaven. All his shows were with #NBC, a 30+ yr relationship. Landon has a Hollywood star on the Boulevard, was nominated for Golden Globe and was inducted in The Television Hall of Fame. He appeared on the cover of #TVguide (remember them?) 22 times, second only to Lucille Ball. I can't even fathom a 30 year career, as a #STAR , with National Broadcast. It sounds like a dream... especially to a Jewish child, #EugeneHorowitz born in 1936' in #Queens , NY.

I love Bonanza. Always have. But this was a horrible episode. So many things wrong with it. This is one of those stories that Michael Landon and Pernell Roberts referred to as "crap". But then - it was 1960 and we were spoiled by the quality of so many of the other Bonanza episodes. They were allowed a few clunkers!!
