Oh I love this One thing I have issues with with wine is that I have a very underdeveloped palette I was very picky eater when I was younger and I've only just started expanding my palate and so it's hard for me to recognize certain sense and notes and flavors and whatnot because I just don't have any experience with them so this is awesome

André's discussion of 'sense memory' is the most famous feature of Proust's great masterpiece, 'À la recherche du temps perdu' or 'Remembrance of Things Past'. The entire seven-novel epic is set in motion when the narrator bites into a madeleine (a little pastry), and the taste brings back a flood of childhood memories. Actors, too, make use of this phenomenon to take them back, vividly, to a moment in time. Sense memory is a powerful thing.

The important part as mentioned (0:22) is to apply the aroma information to best communicate with guests. Using "woody/berry" (blackcurrant), "spicy almond/musk" (hawthorn), or "honey citrus/lemon" (linden), for example, might be more relatable?

its for people who don't have access to some of the natural aromas, a fast way to learn also. honestly i wouldnt spend on it but i can see why its useful - its just important to note that the idea of a "generic" or "aggregate" smell of ALL lemons is itself not really a "lemon". since theres so much more to smelling different lemons, and isolating a defining scent is ambiguous and not accurate since it blends into other scents which are not necessarily "lemony". i think its more important to associate scent with a memory rather than a particular chemical. that way, wine drinking becomes more fun and less like a scientific project. also, its critical not to become a snob and think one has superior tastebuds compared to others - each person has different sensitivity levels to different scents, and some may be more attuned compared to others, the mistake would be to assume that one must be able to pick out x+y+z flavors in order to enjoy wine, as opposed to picking out x1+y1+z1

The idea of these kits is ok, but do you need the kit to understand the difference between lemon and orange. - You need to smell the real ingredients to memorize. If you have to open the bottles frequently ( professional/semi-professional environment) the will oxidize. Le Nez du Vin is a fun game for amateurs.
