Imagine how scared that poor guy was. - in a foreign country - drowning - died for 5 minutes - was revived - is surrounded by large men talking to him in a foreign language - a ring of people clapping for a reason he does not know of - likely still in pain/shock That's enough for me to have a stress and panic induced seizure and just drop dead.

I wouldn't go as far as saying " stressed out " I will agree that it is very difficult to work with on lookers because it takes time away from the care of the person. This 9 yr old video popped up in feed and since I'm quarantined and bored I looked it up...The compression rate would have met 2010 guidelines. at least 100/min (including pauses) allowing chest to fully rise in between with no specified maximum. (mentioned that faster was better than slower) They were doing ~140/min before accounting for pauses and the chest seemed to be fully rising.

kinda arrogant when he said "We've done this a lot of times. we know what we're doing" to the anesthesiologist . when your doing cpr too fast (which is clearly what they are doing) it wont compensate to blood that should be flowing into your heart and brain same as when doing it slow. so you thought you are saving a life but what ur doing was basically useless.

Ryan Kim suffered SCA(Sudden Cardiac Arrest) while in the waters. He knew how to swim and was healthy 26 yo. Sometimes healthy young people suddenly have cardiac arrest for some reason. Lot of comments here on why Ryan was stupid to go swimming without knowing how to swim. Fact is these commentators are stupid to rush to judgement without knowing the facts. Anyways, Ryan made a full recovery thanks to lifeguards and Defibrillator which was very important piece, no amount of CPR would've saved him.

From his perspective this random guy walked up surrounded by cameras, asked him to take a bag in a fairly nonchalant way and pointed him down the beach. This guy also probably doesn't watch the show doesn't know the lifeguards wear blue and doesn't know what a AED bag is The Bondi Lifeguards knows the importance of communicating a message in appropriate tone but he failed to do so at that time he should of said something much more imidiate "Someones dying i need you to run this down the beach now!!" Then followed up with a bit more clarification of where to go and kept pressure on him to go quickly. But beauty of hindsight could woulda shoulda, he got the kit there and the man was revived. I'm sure the lifeguards reviewed all events to refine their reactions as they do with all major cases down there and in recent years they have been much more clear about communication with members of the public assisting them.

I agree, great job not standing aside for this guy, being an anaesthetist is nice and everything, but this isn't 72 and fluorescent as we say, this is real life out in the field. Being a medic for 20 years I have encountered a countless number of times where someone says they are a doctor. My first question is what kind of doctor (being a dentist or psychiatrist doesn't count), let me see your credentials and are you willing to transport with this patient? 99.9% of the time they back off. The one time the doc was willing to do all that he saved my best friends life who I was responding on after he got ran over by a dump truck on his motorcycle. The doc clamped his artery in the field and saved him from bleeding out. These lifeguards are just that, awesome guys that risk their lives to save others. great save

In 2007 I saved a tourist in Manly Beach as he decided to swim alone in the evening with no rescue team operating. I was also a tourist but a good swimmer... I remember this guy crying for his life as the waves were taking him away...I tried to pull him but he was exhausted and I also started to be...I told him that the current was too strong to fight, he was hardly breathing, I tried my best to keep his head out of water... We let the shore roll away...as the current became weaker we find another way to reach the beach... Thanks for saving this poor Korean guy... Forgive these reckless tourists, waves on a sunny day look so harmless...

Thank you for sharing your story, sir. As someone that almost drowned in a public pool when I was 8 years old, I remember all I wanted at that moment was for someone to notice me and help. After quite some time of struggling I realized I had to save myself and swam to the side of the pool but was distraught. It’s been over 20 years and I still remember it vividly and became a better swimmer because of it. You’re a great person to save a life in need!

The only thing you can do wrong when doing CPR is not doing anything at all. Wrong rythm is better than no rythm. Cracking ribs can happen and it's nothing to worry about, a dead man won't care about broken ribs and a man who survived will heal. Gotta think about the situation and how stressed you'll be., I've been in the situation where CPR was needed and even though I've taken several CPR courses where most of them were at highest level in the army and later working at hospitals I was extremely stressed and my pulse was sky high. All you have to do is try

gris186 I disagree. In my opinion, the reason they took forever to revive him was because they weren't doing the compressions correctly. They were in a panic state and I believe they could have performed better. Overall, they did an excellent job in reviving him
@gris186
@gris186 6 жыл бұрын
Fan KPop This isn't Baywatch, reviving someone with compressions is extremely rare. You use compressions till someone arrives with a defibrillator to kickstart the heart. Compressions are for keeping the blood circulation to prevent brain damage from lack of oxygen which occurs really fast.

Fan KPop you know that CPR is not mainly to revive the person, is to keep the body as “alive” as possible. It’s honestly really rare that cpr revives a person. In this situation it was the defibrillator which revived him

Always always with a drowning victim, take the time to flip them on their side (if you can), quick heimlich type pressure over the belly to dispel water then start CPR. It only takes a second and could make a huge difference. CPR and airway resuscitation can be useless if the lungs are full of water. If they vomit on their back they will aspirate into their lungs and drown further. I know it's not generally taught but it should be. Look at all the vomit running right into his nose :( They did an amazing job, so congrats to them on that. Except for the lifeguard that told an anaesthetist to get out of the way...that wasn't too bright.

That anaesthetist on scene has about 5000 times more experience than all of us put together. They do a great job, seem like fantastic people all around and I believe I said that. Rip tides are no joke... one of my nephews almost drowned when a local rip tide swept him out and while he was a strong swimmer he didn’t know how to deal with rip tides (he was also 8). Luckily I had seen the three nephews sneak out onto the beach and followed them and was able to get my nephew back to safety... what haunts me is that on the very same day, just a mile down the beach, the same thing happened. Three kids snuck off from the adults to swim, the youngest couldn’t fight the rip tide but sadly there was no one there to help him.
