Depends case by case and what the courts order, but if fully confiscated they are then sold at auction.

Why were the fish not donated to a Charity..?? Unless the crabs are in for a big treat !!!
@The_Judge3009 ай бұрын
I 100% agree. They should donate the fish to families in need instead of feeding them to the crabs. It is a total disgrace to do this when there are many families struggling very hard to make ends meet. Calling it returning the fish to the sea is just utterly stupid.

Nope give it back to nature. Meat feeders will eat the meat and the bottom feeders will eat the remains which helps the circle of life. Giving it to humans doesn’t help that

It is not know how the fish were treated when on the boat, left in sun etc. so even giving them away could be a health safety issue. Secondly, who would you give them to? Put a "Free fish" ad out and annoy people who are legitimately trying to sell fish to make a living?

There is no way to tell if fish were iced properly and if they were not you could get ciguatera poisoning with can be deadly

Why can’t people just get enough to feed their families for the day?

In South Africa, everything related to enabling that crime of over quota and undersize will be confiscated. The boat and all its equipment, plus the trailor and the vehicle that towed it will be siezed. Then there is a twenty thousand Rand ($2000) fine or 6 months in prison.

The officers do a great job and are to be commended. Except for the wasting of kai. As someone has already stated, the fish should be donated to a food Bank or marae. Certainly, not wasted.

Just think, they’re going back to nature to help the circle of life. Giving it to humans, supports over fishing.. you might aswel let these greedy bastards off the hook with their fish. Preserving our nature is more important. I’m a māori who loves seafood too😄
