Bonding with your hedgehog outside of the cage

Just brought my hedgehog home first night. The breeders already made her somewhat okay with humans but since im new she still does a lot of flinching when i try to bond. Though i put my hand in the enclosure just kept it there for a minute and she is sniffing and stuff

My hedghehog does not ever curl up in a ball. When I pick her up and put her on my lap or chest she looks around. But always makes a kind of smacking sound after some time. She licks her mouth and nose a couple of times. Looks around or lay on her belly on my chest. This is a rescue but seems to be so trusting already. But I am not sure. If she would feel very unsafe she would not lay flat on my chest and just hang out, right? But it’s that smacking sound I am curious about. No mattet if she has been fed or not. I think it’s cute. But I don’t know.

Remember. They are blind. Sudden movement scared them. So, always approach them slowly. Like she Said.

no you can’t! wild insects can have diseases and parasites that can make your hedgehog sick (and possibly die) !! its best to buy insects from reputable breeders. you can feed them mealworms, waxworms, hormworms, black soldier fly larvae, dubia roaches, grasshoppers, and crickets but make sure to feed them in moderation to avoid making your hedgehog overweight :)

We also want to be mindful of where are bugs have been, because outside bugs can be around lots of pesticides and repellents, which can make our pets very sick! This is why it’s best to stick to bugs that are properly kept by pet stores and breeders, so we can avoid our pets getting sick!
