Hello Richard. Great video! I have some free time now and some simple bones. But no tools! Any tips on how i should start? What can i use to carve? Knives? Thanks a bunch, a keep up the good work!
@RichardOhKaNoi10 жыл бұрын
sure I am glad to help first you need a plan. then make up drawings of what you want to carve. next simple tools 1. a coping saw with extra blades, 2 files various types, but small enough for bone work. 2 sand paper smooth and extra smooth it will help if you buy a dremmel tool with attachments and sanding disc. (big help) and make sure you cut bone in a place where plenty of fresh air is avlalible ( you dont want to breath the bone dust) then have fun.

Hi Richard! I just started working on this project for making bone jewelry and I found some bones in the desert, is it better to work with those since they seem to be porous or is it better to get some fresh bones from the meat store? Thanks !

@RichardOhKaNoi14 жыл бұрын
i use various tools first and foremost is the dremmel tool. i also cut items out with a coping saw/jewellers saw. to finish sanding i use the fingernail emmory bords. and 300 grit sand paper. and i have a high speed buffing wheel attached to a bench grinder. also for flatting pices i use a belt sander. also i have a shop vac system attached to pick up any bone dust. all total cost about $75 to start with.

@RichardOhKaNoi10 жыл бұрын
any bone will work as long as you can properly clean it usually by soaking it in a mild bleach solution for about 2 weeks or more then in some hydrogen peroxide for about the same time it takes about 1 1/2 months to properly prepair bones. cooked or raw

@smcewen7 no please dont go there i have tried that and also a jig saw Do not attempt, because the bone dust causes the saw blade to grab and it throws the bone all over the place very dangerous. it is best to do it the old and slow way by using a coping or a jewellery saw

Tripsevensix I would love to get my hands on some tauga nut I have seen carvings done with them but I think that I could do much better job but then again they are done by local people with limited tools. still like them anyway and I have been carving most of my life since I was a kid and I am 69 years old now. if you dont like the smell of it use a face mask and add a drop of perfume on it works good keeps the burnt smell away. and good luck carving

@RichardOhKaNoi7 жыл бұрын
Prices vary a small one like an elephant only $10 to a more complicated one the prices go up but I sell them cheap $15-$20-$25 even higher for real fancy ones and special request the best rule that I use is don't cheat your customer threat them fairly and keep your prices low and you will have more sales

no actually safety glasses are dangrous for me. i happen to be of the 2% who sweat profusly when wearing them and they fog up and i cant see then they become very dangerous for me. i know this as a fact i have been involved in a trade all of my life where i have had to fight the battle and prove to my boss's that they are actually dangerous to some people.
