Beware when having any procedure especially in my case a Bone Marrow Biopsy which is a critical procedure requiring dexterity and experience. There was a nurse a doctor and a third person in the room who suspiciously was not introduced to me. So, I asked who were they and was told that it was student and they would be performing a bloods test to which I stated "no no no no no I won't have a student because I have had really bad experiences for example, bleeding vein, collapsing vein and the needle missing the vein an the student continuing to push hard even when I called out in pain for them to stop. I understand that students need practice but not at the expense of my health and in particular not before a Bone Marrow Biopsy which is in itself gruelling even with sedation. I also talk about high blood pressure and being a vegetarian which I believe lowered my blood pressure and I no longer require medication this has been my experience and opinion, of course my GP agreed to my stopping the medication.

I'm afraid that when you are on multiple drugs it is well worth double-checking drug interactions and side effects yourself. The medics don't always pick it up. It's your body. Report all side effects, however minor. Here's a story: I have CML (awaiting a SCT) and have had my fair share of BMBs. The first one on emergency admission (I was in blast crisis) was so painful, even though the area was numbed. I was offered no gas and air. The second one was performed by a final year student who I have to say was so quick and kind (he was supervised by the first doctor) but it still hurt because I was offered no gas and air. My subsequent BMBs performed by a great, compassionate doctor have all been done with the aid of gas and air (Entonox) right from local anaesthetic to sample retrieval and it is SO much more bearable, even had a good giggle because of the gas last time!
