Sepp’s bone sauce is very effective. We thin it out to the consistency of varnish with cheap cooking oil. Like Billy said, “a little goes a long way,” so we just dab a little here and there all around. You don’t have to paint the entire trunk and branches. We pulverize the remaining bones and add it to our compost then scatter it around the trees and water it in as a calcium and phosphorus amendment. Turns waste bones into value added product. That works for me!

Just watched a video last week I think from Deep South homestead and heard Danny talk about how good this stuff is to deter deer. I’ve been spreading the word! Danny doesn’t mince words when he recommends or warns folks about a product so don’t let folks make you feel bad about the cost. Saving the food we work so hard to grow is worth way more than $95!

I just got mine in the mail yesterday. I did not watch this video first. The spots in my garden where I have the long legged rodent problem are no where near trees. I don't have raised beds or wooden posts anywhere near where they've been munching (bush beans and amaranth tops mostly) My plan was to use skewers/long tooth picks - dip and stick them in the ground in the problem areas. Now I have concerns about the stray cat that hangs out in the fields around here and my little old lady dog who's deaf. I really would feel bad if any pet like critter was to eat a pointy stick. Thoughts?

Thank you for taking all the time of experimenting and perfecting your process for those of us that don't have the time to create such a product. Keep a tight body position and count and may all your landings be soft.

Don’t know how you make your bone sauce. We follow Sepp’s method but we add an additional step. I place an old 55- or 30-gal burn drum (with holes around the bottom edge) UPSIDE DOWN on fire bricks over the whole thing. This creates a rocket stove chimney effect which burns hotter and more complete. It’s also safer if the pots were not sealed properly. We run some metal pipe poles through some of the holes in the bottom of the drum (which is now the top) so that we can lift the drum off to add more wood if needed and to reveal the coals. When we have enough coals, we kick the bricks aside, cover the coals with dirt and put the drum back over the pile to trap in the heat. Then we leave it overnight. The drum will protect it from wind and rain until you are ready to open the pots the next morning. Feel free to use this idea if it works for you. If you do try it, tell me if it helped. That will make my day. If the ground is dry make sure that you wet the ground with a hose first otherwise it can burn too hot.

I bought a large jar. It is solid, not a liquid. Seems to be all ash. Tried to rub it on stakes. IT fell off. Finally rubbed enough on to stain the wood. After one rain it all washed off - the stakes are mostly the original blonde color. I emailed them - Michelle is the contact person. Have not received a reply. Waiting to hear why it is solid. The deer continue to nibble on my new fruit trees.

Can you use lard? I purchased some and want to make sure I don’t ruin it. We made our own last year cuz I could not wait for delivery of yours last year. Ours lasted for 5months. Then I could not find where I put yours until a couple days ago. Just in time . Deer are back with a vengeance. Eat all my roses, other flowers and continued into my garden. Ate my ochre, cucumbers and tomatoes etc I am putting it on tonight. And ordered an 8 oz today so I don’t run out. We have been too busy to make our own. I think yours will work better.

Ok I took the plunge and bought it. I have watched all your videos about it, I know how hard you’ve worked on it. I thought for a bit we would just follow your instructions and make it ourselves, but it is involved. And I know the time you’ve spent on trials with this. $100 is a good chunk for me to lay out, I have to think a while on spending that amount. But we are in deer country here on our new property. We have an area with an 8’ steel deer fence surrounding the main garden and the ducks, chickens, rabbits. But there’s so much of our land we can’t use that’s not inside that area. Hopefully this will solve that.

Thank you for your purchase! The only metal surface we ever tried it on was T posts on our perimeter fence. I suspect it works. You could try painting bone sauce on the metal surface and if that doesn’t work you might want to switch over to wooden posts surrounding the area.

I just had an E-VILE idea - with a question. Do you know how effective your bone sauce is as a vermin repellent to keep rodents, insects, and other prepper predators out of the supplies? I just got the Carolina Reaper seeds I ordered and plan to grow them specifically to add to the bone sauce. Carolina Reapers are supposed to be THE hottest pepper, with Scoville ratings of 2,000,000+, and make habanero look like a sweet bell…

Our ten acres is bordered on two sides by timber company property, 1,000s of acres of habitat so we are just a yard to walk thru. Fortunately the bear and cougar dont come to the house.
