I remember picking up this CD from the budget bin for 5 bucks in '98 cause why the hell not. I knew of Crossroads as a single but it was a little too soft for me at the time, I played the whole album on the bus back home and was absolutely blown away. 13yo Dutch kid, couldn't understand a word but the flows and the beats were so mesmerising. I just had it on repeat for ages, especially this song and "Eternal". 37 now and have an extensive BTNH collection of around 70 albums (and that doesn't include anything they released in the last 10 years, insane how much music they've released). Still have difficulty telling what they're rapping about, still mesmerised. I hope you do alot more Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, really enjoying this channel.

As an add-on: "street singles" are often released by rappers who have become more commercial artists but still want to show their original underground artists that they're still hard, lyrical, and not "sellouts." For example, LL Cool J's "4, 3, 2, 1" could be considered a street single because his first single off the album it was on - "Phenomenon" (the album's title and title track, which is also worth a reaction btw) was very poppy, while this one was more lyrical in content and not likely to be played in clubs. Using this same example, if a street single creates enough buzz, it can eventually become an official single. 50 Cent's "Many Men" is another example. And yes, labels will release street singles to be able to keep the continued interest of the artist's underground crowd since their rep is also an important selling point.

I'm a huge Bizzy fan so I'm glad you've taken a liking to him, he's very unique. Had a tough life his story is very interesting, from being kidnapped as a kid then being found cause of John Walsh of Americas most wanted. When his son Adam was missing, they showed a bunch of photos of missing children and Bizzy was one of them. He then was in and out of foster homes, in his single Nobody can stop me from his first Album Heavenz Movie, he talks about things like being molested. At that time nobody was expecting to hear that, cause you're showing your vulnerability. I could go on and on with his story and Bone in general, I'm from New York nobody really was bumping Bone here cause we're considered East Coast and Bone though their Midwest they rolled with Eazy E. He's West Coast so Bone was labeled West Coast, when Notorious Thugs came out with Biggie, then finally people in New York were like who's this group? These guys are nasty, and I would be like I told ya. While Most people were listening to Wu Tang and Mobb Deep, I was more into Bone Thugs and OutKast. I just liked how unique they were their flows and cadence was just different from other groups and I liked that. Foe the love of money, Thuggish Ruggish Bone are songs that put bone on the Map from their EP Creepin on the Come up. I believe that went like 4x platinum, then in 95 their LP East 1999 Eternal came out and it was just a classic album. So many great songs on that album, then in 97 they came out with The Art of War a double album. That album was an album going after rappers who they felt were trying to sound like them, also during that time Bone mainly Bizzy Bone wasn't in videos or performances. He felt Bone was getting robbed by Ruthless records, when Eazy passed nobody at Ruthless knew what they were doing. And Bone was the only act they had there that was really successful, Bizzy speaking up and being vocal about it caused conflict throughout the group. I could go on but I hope you react to more Bone song's, and a good rapper to lyrically to take a chance on is Black Thought of the Roots who you might know from the Jimmy Fallon late night show

You're welcome Boomer, you seem like cool peoples. I didn't know you reacted to Black Thought and his free style with Funk Flex, Black Thought is another slept on MC. People always mention the most popular rappers like Biggie, Jay Z, Nas, Eminem, but Black Thought lyrically is just special him and Eminem are Gold Medalist with their word play. Royce Da 5'9 is another good rapper to listen to he's down with Eminem, they had an album come out years back call Bad Meets Evil love when those 2 collaborate. Andre 3000 from the Group OutKast I think you would like him, you got underground rappers who are really gifted wordsmith like Locksmith and RA the Rugged Man. Their songs will never get radio play, but their word play is Eminem and Black Thought like. If you ever listen to any Bizzy Bone Solo Stuff, Nobody can stop me I think is a song you would like along with Thugz Cry those were the 2 singles off his first album. Then 3 years later he came out with The Gift, that had the single called Father there Bizzy was showcasing he's a lyrical assassin. Krayzie Bone of Bone Thugs is also great and they both Collaborated on an album called New Waves, that album was really good. With the lead Single Coming Home featuring Stephen Marley one of Bob Marleys son's. I can go on and on but thanks Boomer for replying back I appreciate that

What up Chris, where you from bro ? Love when I get to hear from people who like me are Bizzy fan's. And I hope Bone gets into the Rock and Roll hall of fame, as Bizzy fans you know how much he would love that. I don't know if they get in though, cause with all their accolades it's like Bone is super slept on and underrated and not talked about enough. And that shit bothers me, Wu Tang gets mad love and Notoriety and I'm from New York. Their accolades don't measure up to Bone though, yet their more talked about. They have the documentaries and their series on Hulu, Bone talks about them having one soon but it never comes to fruition. I want that 2024 Bone Album that Bizzy talks about, I would like for them to work with DJ Uneek on some tracks but also finally work with Dr Dre too. Get some beats from Pharrell bring in the heavy hitters, have some dope collabs with guys like Kendrick and J Cole for the younger era. Then have collabs with guys like Jay Z or Nas definitely Eminem and Busta Rhymes would be dope, them all spitting fast just leave Wish off the track lol

Street singles which are usually more hardcore get radio play on the late night showcases usually after 10pm when a mix dj comes in and plays all the new records from the clean radio version of the vinyl which the DJ's scratch, chop or blend, the college/underground stations also play these street singles from well known rappers along side their new independent artists playlist.

You’re totally right but I sincerely stand behind “street singles” designation arising from usually just not mixed as well. As crazy as that sounds it’s suprising how much can Go wrong when mixing songs. Radio songs that one can admit have a better beat than lyrics always just have a welcoming audio mix which subconsciously makes ppl take it more seriously no matter what somone says. Definitely a way for the industry gate keepers to encourage ppl to pay for studio time instead of just assembling their own which can be under 1 or 2k. For the mic, audio interface, and slight sound proofing.I don’t get why ppl want to pay for studio time over learning to mix or just upgrading. I had a friend who would pay so much for studio time and never release his songs ever and after I spoke to his engineer even he questioned the adopted practice of not even owning your own studio.

@@ABoomerReacts I never thought about it as much until this video. this is great! But yea it’s just part of the equation when it comes down to brass tacks. Most of Datpiff (and Mixtape sites) is probably considered a hive of street singles for many many artists particularly southern rappers growing up on bone thugs. All equipment is for sale and there’s many brands and competitors, it’s crazy to picture recording studio owners who sell time to artists buying them online or at a store. It’s all leveling and compression that makes songs sound even but even the highest budget artists like Gucci Mane can have songs that are in 2022 that have off kilter audio mix. Usually the Bass in the beat is why, it’s wild how much of a science goes into a lot of these songs that had great audio over 10 years ago. Gucci mane or migos songs recorded in a closet sound better than some now but yet made it on the radio and you’d never think they were literally in a closet basement. The recording process is intimating for many artists. I myself know 90% of the songs final versions that Are not street singles ;; are usually finished after several Attempts. Hours even. And studio time is by the hour. It’s a lot of pressure to make a radio hit when you’re clock is ticking and you could pay more for studio time then an entire setup just because you stumbled on a word or want to improve delivery. This song and faster rap style absolutely is more expensive to produce if the studio isn’t in a spare room at home. Thank you once again sensei!

thats right about street single surprised nobody ever answered. DMX - Where my dogs at was his street single... an amazing song that is too dark or not seen as commercially marketable.... maybe "Aint No Fun" would have been as well... something they couldnt play on the radio but could potentially be a hit in fans eyes. But the general public and radio... music label wouldnt dare put out and promote. Hiphop is kind of like Punk and Metal, where fans arent really looking for the commercial singles. People really want the more obscure, raw songs most of the time. Circling back to your previous video with Redman, thats why he wont click immediately... He's loved by mostly all hiphop fans because he tows the line between lyrical, commercial and very raw. He's a good balance of underground raw hiphop that people want to hear. He's not overly polished and commercial, but he exists in that lane.... he's not completely raw and amateur... but he provides that sound that hiphop loves. And he's very hardcore and technical....which defines hiphop really. Kind of like a Kurt Cobain in a sense... to where he's commercial...but the good Nirvana songs just exist as grunge without the purpose of being over the top glossy. Redman and Kurt kind of just embody the genre naturally.

Bone's music was about a lot of things, the mystique, the flow, the dark themes, etc. Lyrics weren't their focus as they weren't using complicated metaphors and things like that. Which is why I don't like listening to Bone's music while looking at the lyrics, and I've watched almost every Bone "reaction" video on youtube and one thing I've noticed is that reactors enjoy Bone's music more when either watching the music video, or just having the album thumbnail. Watching a lyrics video has you focus on the one thing that they aren't 10 out of 10 on, and it takes your brain out of the milieu and you're no longer focusing on the sound or the intricate fast rapping while also being melodic and creative with flow changes. I recommend any future reactions to not have the lyrics when regarding Bone thugs n harmony.

I think a street single just means that the song is probably one of the best and hardest, dopest songs off the album but its content and lyrics are too raw and harsh to make it a radio single. But the fans and people who listen to it make it a "street single" like "mo murda" which is probably the best song off that album. It's that original gritty dark bone style that everyone loves them for. Oh and when Krazie Bone says , "gotta find these Row hoes" on the first verse he's talking about Death Row records.
