I thought you would talk about Hwang. I really liked Hwang and his death hurt me. He just wanted to get off the floor and be a real human, but he just couldn't. That flashback with his mother was very painful, but on the other hand that shows part of the reality of the Tower. Some people or creatures die without having achieved what they wanted. The same thing happened with Prince, Raptor, Deng Deng and millions of Regulars that we did not know. I think SIU should continue to show this reality.

I think the reason why people doesn't sort of recognize that there's a lot of deaths, is because each character in tower of god have such deep backgrounds and interesting stories that we sort of "forgot" or "distracted away" from those who have died. Too busy with the current array of characters.

I dont think necessarily major characters have to die, but in my opinion the way the show is structured it almost has to be. This show has so many relatively important characters that, unless they have a memorable moment or personality the reader just wont care about minor deaths. Also I think the main problem is the tower is built to be this amazing difficult place were only the strong survive and most of the characters are just carried by bam, the princesses, or a 10 family member and dont have much standing on their own or from what we've seen. That's why I like wangnan so much because his introduction gives a taste of the hopelessness of what it meant to climb the tower and repeatedly fail. And while he dosent have much strength as a character he is actively working towards trying to get stronger (before he dissapeared from the story anyway)

How much Prince had changed since he was introduced was extremely surprising. considering tog is at like the halfway point and we are just getting into the war stuff it has a LOT of deaths especially for a shounen type series, I honestly think some people just like to look for something to complain about. However I do think a couple more of the bigger names should die during the current arc given the stakes but we are also just starting to really get into the nest arc so it has a lot of room to play with.

I could imagine Bam hearing of it after the Nest is all wrapped up. Until then we definitely need White and I don’t think Bam could fight alongside him after knowing. I also kind of hope the inevitable deathfight results in Whites spell being broken and is getting Vincente on the team. The other way could also be Bam and White splitting paths after knowing and setting White up as a major villain in fug. Full power White might be still to much for Bam.

For me it’s not deaths specifically it’s more along the lines of stakes for Bam and Rachel’s teams I feel like as time goes on the fear of danger and death that loomed over the series disappeared especially as more high rankers started appearing left and right. This is especially shown with the antagonist I feel like the show’s writing quality takes a nose dive every time Rachel appears in order to justify her getting a leg up or even surviving.

Some of the best character deaths... are the ones with the most future potential. (especially the ones we don't want to die) It's a trade off... huge shock, catches people off guard, pressure for the stakes and people really feel for the char... but you lose out on the character and any future interactions with them But part what makes a good death is the aftermath. You have to realise how the rest of their story plays out without them... A character that has some screen time, a backstory, a goal... but most importantly a future that will be taken from them... Like think about Arkraptor, I was so hopeful for his future and his goals of finding his daughter... all the questions like "who, where, when, how" and then suddenly the realisation that his ambitions would never be realised... He would never meet his daughter again, and she'd never see him or know of the hardships he went through to get to her. It was so tragic and really hit hard, especially when thinking what could have been. Though the char has to be developed enough to have people care about them for that to be the case.

I feel like Tower of God could learn a bit more from Attack on Titan. Yes, Tower of God has better world building than AoT, however, AoT does a wonderful job with killing off characters and distributing screen time. Yams just does a good job with developing a fanbase for characters but then killing off the characters in such a way that even if they are dead, we are still happy in a sense. He basically kills them off while giving their deaths such purpose and meaning to the story while making the fans happy that their favourite character actually died.

When taking first part of the test on the 20th floor, while Team Sweet and Sour (excluding Ehwa and Prince, they weren't met yet) were fighting each other in the room, another opponent comes in and is immediately attacked by Bam and we never see him get back up. Even after Wangnan/Horyang/Arkraptor vs Bam is over we don't see that guy again. This is in the first few chapters of Season 2 btw.

Keep in mind: *we're not even at the halfway point of the Tower, let alone the series* Almost a decade inuniverse and Baam went from a weak kid to fight alongside and against High Rankers and he hasn't even gotten the A-Rank Class Regular card.

Hot take: despite some deaths being somewhat impactful (Batis, Inieta, Arkraptor), they never reach the impact or narrative importance of early Hoh and Nia. Some even fall flat completely, like Deng Deng or Prince (imo). Death also doesn't seem as frighteningly present as in early ToG. The very first test was a brutal free for all with 100+ deaths and with every character introduced we were unsure if they'll stick around or get killed off within a chapter or two. Now in a huge war we occasionally see some floating faceless bodies, but I don't feel like any "good" characters are in danger. Even Canhong's kamikaze attack had her survive. And then there are some save/kill choices that don't make any sense. Horyang's arc is done, he won't be competitive without a big asspull, should've been killed off. Jinsung should've died, or at least had his arms blown off (as the explosion panel made it seem). Quatro instead of Chang. All in all, not very happy with how deaths are being handled post early s2.

My problem with ToG deaths are the following: 1- Even when there are major deaths, they were not well handled, arkraptor and prince had just come back after staying away for a lot of chapters, and they hadn't been impactful in workshop battle, so when they were on the train, you'd expect some built to their characters until the moment of their deaths, but there were none, they were used as hostages in the match between baam and hoaqin, and after that they stayed away for the entire namehunt station arc, and in my pov that moment was a "deadline" for SiU to kill someone, because we all knew that Rak and yihwa weren't dead yet without seeying their bodies, so SiU had to kill someone, and he chose arkraptor and prince, i bet that if the deaths were miseng and arkraptor, the impact would be a lot bigger, because we would see a new side of prince. And after 100+ chapters beyond that, Baam still doesn't know about the deaths, and it's seems like they weren't impactfull enough because of that, i'm sure that if baam knew that they were dead, he would have killed rachel in that confrontation they had, we have to understand that even now Baam still doesn't know about their deaths, and it doesn't seem like he'll know about them soon, so what was the true impact of their deaths??? 2- Death baits, i'm already tired of death baits on Khun, everytime it's the same thing, and everytime i don't feel the little bit of fear that Khun will die, because we know that he still have a lot of unfinished business down the line, death baits are meant to be used when there is real fear of certain character death, and how's that done? When you kill other characters of similar importance around him, and that hasn't been done yet. And also Jinsung, everything leading to his death was perfect, the setup, the enemy, the objective, the fight, the killing blow, everything, but at the moment that he didn't died, it all seemed like SiU changed it at the last moment, so it all lost the impact that it had. 3- Characters that looks like they were created just to die, deng deng, batis, i didn't believed that these two would stay alive in any moment, when we got to hidden floor, everyone expected a floor with so many information from the past of jahad and edhan and batis character hadn't anything to do with any of that, his use as a character was for us to be angry at the big breeders, but the big breeders lost their importance as soon as the khuns came to the screen, so he was like a lost piece with no objectives there. Deng deng didn't had time for us to develop enough empathy for him, and with so many new characters being introduced at the same time, he was obviously the least of us readers concerns.

I like the foil where Baam is a savage but slowly gains his heart throughout season 2,3, etc whereas Wangnan starts off idealistic and without killing but ends up succumbing to his tragedy and turns into a villain. By the way he was paneled at the end of season 2 it seems he close to snapping and he might return with some crazy power. Imagine what would happen if hwaryan, goseng, miseng, and finally ehwa die (hopefully near the final arcs) in order to protect him and/or Wangnan's idealogy and he uses his anger to fuel him to become stronger. How interesting would it be if Wangnan finally does overthrow Jahad but then turns around and becomes just as terrible as a king and Baam's final opponent.

One person that I felt like would've had a good farewell death was Anaak during her battle with Ran during the workshop battle. I do not hate Anaak whatsoever, if anything I don't really feel one way or the other for her character to be honest, but if Anaak died fighting Ran that would've been such a good concluding moment for her. For starters, after Workshop Battle, she becomes kind of irrelevant. Sure she returns a bit in the Name Hunt Station, and maybe she will be important in a future arc, I don't know. But as she exists right now, her character arc mostly wrapped up in season 1, and after Workshop Battle she becomes kind of irrelevant. Not to mention it would've highlighted Ran's power, making for a good foreshadow to him being a direct Khun descendant by having him take out a quarter-blood (I guess she's a quarter blood?) of Jahad. It just works for both characters here if you ask me. It would've made the battle more emotional, it would've been the wrap up of her character, and would've made Ran seem all the more powerful and menacing, which wouldn't need to make him seem like a villain, just really highlight his potential as a direct descendant of Khun Eduan. Just my take on the whole situation though.

I don’t want to come off wrong here, but Aank dying then would be terrible, her character arc is nowhere near finished and Ran is apart of AGUERO’S TEAM. Shibsu and Aguero are friends and they are apart of the same ‘team’ just split into different groups. Ran killing Anaak makes no sense.

I disagree with people who think that characters to die, or characters have to die for the story to be good-while I do think that for a really long, action/battle story like this one having no characters die would be unrealistic-but I see way too many cheap deaths in media that are clearly written because “we needed a big death moment”. These moments can be powerful, but so are many other things, and I think people rely on death too much as a way to induce emotions or drama for the story.

Same here, but I was not too surprised. I really loved his character and honestly was my favorite character in the Sweet and Sour team aside from Baam and Khun. He was a mature, caring person who gave great advice. I really loved his character and his reason for climbing. Prince death I really did not feel sad at all because he was annoying to me and the fact that he went out with a sacrifice made it all good but Akraptor, it sucks. I hate Wangnan because of that. Useless guy causing others to die for him. He better kills off some villains and finds Akraptor's daughter to make up for his sacrifice. In relation to Tower of God and deaths, the only complaint that I have is the lack of major bad characters dying. It is almost like they have a better plot on their side and it is the regulars that survive. I am glad that in season 3 bad characters are dying but I want some of the bad regulars to die such as Apple and Michael as well as that Ha family girl. Rachael needs to survive because there are still more questions about her and her backstory but the other characters have to die.

Honestly, Prince and Arkraptor's deaths didn't work for me at all. By that point, I was so used to TOG's fake-out deaths that I didn't believe for a moment they would stick - especially Prince, whose death was entirely offscreen. Eventually it became clear that they probably weren't coming back (...I'm still not 100% convinced), but by then I felt like I had missed the chance to actually grieve for them. Maybe it would hit harder if I re-read that part with the understanding that they were dead for real, but at the time it fell absolutely flat.

I dont know why, but the knight in the first season, did he die? The one that attacked the princess in that same episode tha Ho died? After that one of the regulars is crying while holding the knight sword, and i never knew what happened to him
