The Murals on Headon's Floor: Explained

The murals in Tower of God have always perplexed everyone who has read the first few chapters of the story. They seem to show some very specific scenes in detail, but at the same time have never been addressed by SIU or the story itself. Let's talk about them and see what we can figure out!

Imo The mural of the king with the sword is actually wangnan with his new talking sword. This mural just gives me huge king Arthur vibes, and the way wangnan got that talking sword feels kinda the same. "...its like excalibur!!!" --wangnan's first impression of talking sword.

I think the last mural might be the Tower, in Nen Nen's story, she said the Tower was originally just plants and machines, so maybe the Tower itself is just a giant tree. Then, when the characters finally leave the Tower there's this moment of realization that all they've known is so small in comparison to the Outside World. Also it would be a pretty clever take on the idea of a World Tree.

At 4:05, left side of the middle mural so can see a person holding a baby (Arlene and dead bam at 43th floor) in front of administrator begging to revive bam, but that administrator refused. Maybe that's the reason why enryu killed that admin. Just a theory and sorry for my bad English.

9:43 actually what came to mind when i saw this one was Yuri's rose technique, i forget what it's called but if im remembering correctly it's the one that she used on karaka and also the one she taught Endorsi. I was thinking it could be a prophecy as to how big of a companion Yuri would be for Baam throughout his journey.

I have many reservations about the other murals, but the butterfly one, which I actually think is a moth, probably refers to the Falena (Moth) myth. It is of Persian origin and is related to the moth that makes the tree's leaves twist when it lands on them. "Constant symbol of the soul in search of the divine and consumed by the mystic love, as example of the lepidopteran that burns its wings around the flames it flies upon". "Symbol of the humanity that dreams of elevating their spirit and [...] have wings". [CHEVALIER, GHEERBRANT, Dictionary of Symbols, 2020]. If you pay close attention, this mural first appears when Baam first arrives inside the Tower and his arms are pointing to a pyre (fire) which is right next to the moth mural. I don't think it's a coincidence. It's like Rachel is trying to elevate her being, because she wants to climb the Tower and be reborn. Baam is clinging to her and this very love he has for her burns him (as we see in future events). At the same time, Rachel is burned by her own wishes and also Baam (envy). In a sense, it's like she is the Moth and the Tower (and Baam) her flames; all the while Baam is a Moth and Rachel his flames. I think that mural kinda illustrates that.

A little addendum: Rachel took the name Icarus on the Hidden Floor. In Greek mythology Icarus used his wings to escape the labyrinth (Tower?) but went too close to the Sun and... Well, his wings burned and he fell and died. This also brings me back to my theory of the ending of the anime, but I'll stop here haha.

7:44 i think that thing on that woman's (probably Arlene) back is a demon holding bam's dead body in that piece of cloth in his hand. That demon also kinda resembles the "ancient demon" in White's backstory. White said that the "ancient demon" gave him the spell to takeover his siblings bodies. And who is the best spell user ? Arlene !! And what happened to all the power that white gained through that spell ? Bam stole it !!

There is the possibility that White's father could have a crown too, but I don't remember the clone that gave Baam all those souls had one.

Hmm not sure about Adori being an Arie, though I do know for sure that outside of the Arie main branch, only Adori and her Royal Guard were trained in the Arie Swordsmanship, this is according to the wikia

In the swordking - ancient - moth mural I had a theory (or more of a hypothesis) that it could be our three main protagonists. I suppose that Rak is the Ancient (duh), the crowned sword guy is Baam (Crown as a representation of his status or his status as a God-killer, or maybe White's crown - the power to govern souls; the sword floating above him is the Thorn). And that leaves us with the moth-thing for Khun - I am pretty unsure about this one, but it could be a reference for the fire fish (in a latter form, when Khun will have used it even more). It would also kinda align with the Persian fire moth myth someone else shared in these comments.

the Shinheuh looking creature might be the outside god because there is a woman bowing down to it and she looks like she is offering it something. This could also tie to why Rachel keeps calling Baam a monster. Maybe because she has seen a picture of what gave Baam life after death.

At 3:42 what i think is the first mural might represent arlene wearing a cloak ( maybe showing her leaving the tower quietly?).. In the midle one if u look closely u can see a person offering a baby (arlene?) to the bird (pheonix?..since they cab resurrect) like creature (the outside god?).. On the right side maybe its the representation of phantaminum entering the tower?

the second panel of 3 murals might just be the irregulars before baam but after Zahard. On the left draped in a cloak of mystery could be phantomminum, the middle looks like a person maybe colored in red so that could be Enriyu against the floor guardian and then Urek on the right (The mural has a hat on lol I think its Urek). 8:11 kinda looks like a demon child on the back of the woman. My brain cant help but to see horns coming out of both sides of the childs forehead.

As for the “Ari family doesn’t use swords” comment. Keep in mind the sword is above his head. And according to Sharon Ari members carry a different kind of sword within them. Notice that he isn’t holding it. It’s floating above him. Could be a similar thing to what Sharon used.

There a lot we say about these Murals. What I know for sure, is that when the lore is finally revealed.... it’s going to be tooooooo hype!!!!! For me, It all depends on the purpose and creation methods of them. Are they made to predict the future, as well as tell of the past? If that room has stuff about any of the current events or people, like Enryu and such, does that mean the murals were made after they came? Or made ahead of time? Are they simply the form that Headon honors the irregulars that come in the tower?? Like the king could be an ode to Jahad, the monster to Urek, and the butterfly to Bam. Now(until new information comes out) how I see it, is that these were not made by human hands, but rather by Headon. And they catalog the story of the tower, from the very beginning. The king and sword is definitely anode to the sword of Damocles. The ever present threat for those in power. While also doubling as hint for an original or true king of the tower. And the beast I do believe is in reference to the the ancient giant. The native one. As when that creature was in the tower, it must have been unmatched by anything except the administrators. Because its offspring, and it’s ancients, being as incredible powerful are and were. And the butterfly I’m not sure about. It could be Bam. Or it could be V. Or... it could stand for the great warriors who entered the tower and brought a new era, and brought change to the tower. I’ll have to think more on the rest to have a better theory.

5:55 that could represent the people White tricked into fighting eachother with a snake representing White like in the Bible with Satan as a snake. It makes sense to me as only Arie is known for useing swords and most characters use Shinsu reinforcement instead of armor but the people White tricked (in the translation I read) didn't know anything about the tower which sounds crazy at first because he has never been out of the tower and everyone in it wants to climb, but White recived a spell *book* not just one page. So with a spell and possibly help from the demon mentioned he could theoretically create the scenario. I wouldn't know the details as I'm thinking as I'm typing but it seems like a good base theory.

Okay so hear me out now the mural of the three monsters the first one all the way on the left is possibly a arie, the sword the crown and the Skelton are all thing we’ve seen in white. Now notice that the arie mural is the only one facing foward and the other 2 murals are facing the arie (if you ask me they don’t look to happy) so if tinfoily as it may sound I think this is a mural of the battle between the ancients. the story starts with baam outside of the tower in a cave with no memories. i think SIU had, at the very least, a vague idea of how baam ended up there. so yeah he probably had a plan for arlen since the start

I have a theory that Baam is Enryu, or to be specific, Baam's body contains Enryu's soul. My evidence: -Baam used the rain Shinsu when he fought White just like Enryu did when he fought the administrator of the floor of death. In addition, Baam can use many baangs, not like Enryu, but he has the same ability. Moreover, he is a shinsu master like Enryu -Enryu hated Jahad and killed the administrator of the floor that was once Arlene's land or as it is mentioned in the wiki :"he entered the 43rd Floor believing that Zahard had desecrated the Floor that was once Arlen Grace's land" which means that he is related to Arlene (Baam's mother) -The obsession of Hwaryun on Baam and thinking that he will be their savior. I believe that Hwaryun as a red witch is related to Enryu (red hair and eyes, forseeing the future, the floor of death is their home floor..) -Garam once said "..but now, a boy has appeared here who has power just like his -Enryu- .. could this be the start of another tale?.." She compared him to Enryu and this may be a hint from the author. -Enryu came to deliver the thorn to Baam
