7:38 Sam challenges himself to throw a spear and completely botches it. Without a second thought blames himself rather than the game. *This is the caliber of software VR has been waiting for*
@MapleLeafAce5 жыл бұрын
Henry Munnich not really. It’s still the fault of the software. A real spear can be thrown properly because of its mass and momentum. You won’t be able to throw a spear in VR properly ever because it has no mass or momentum in there.
@henrymunnich16485 жыл бұрын
@@MapleLeafAce Its funny you say that its the software's fault and then immediately go into the limitations of VR as a platform, implying that its not the fault of the software. Perfect realism could be nice but thats not what I was talking about. Clunky, unintuitive, and inconsistent physics are the standard for current VR games, and a physics engine without those caveats is genuinely what a lot of people have been waiting for to invest in VR. Its also interesting you mention mass and momentum because those are specifically what Brandon's team is focusing on emulating.

@@ItsLeeMcGuire How about the fact that it solves a lot of the mechanics and haptic feedback issues associated with VR in one go? You obviously haven't a clue at how hard this things are to solve, especially stuff that might seem mundane, such as how the arm realistically twists and bends to your movement. There's a reason why most VR games to date have had to use disembodied hands just to bypass this issue. Now its solved. Other stuff like accurate physical interaction with the game world and objects, and the amount of physics involved in that is like nothing Ive seen in any other VR game, or any game ever made for that matter, and is something only possible in VR. When computer games first started being developed, the fundamentals like controles and certain mechanics associated with them that we take for granted today, had to start from somewhere. It's akin to when we all had a 8 way direction D-pad to control our characters with. When devs jumped from that to 360 degree analogue, it presented an entirely new challenge for them to circumvent, and now, again, we just take it for granted. This is what Brandan has done with these controllers, and the leap and what is possible from them will only be apparent in new games that make specific use of them. If you don't think this is impressive, then you don't know what you are looking at.

It's likely that VR games will evolve much more than gaming did from the 90s to the 2010s even, because there's much more freedom and more room for new inputs. Lee McGuire To understand this you must venture into VR games that are similar to what this like Pavlov and pretty much any game in general. What they are showing is very details mechanics that are very realistic and reminiscent of real life, making the user feel like they are in the game without breaking immersion through faulty physics and unnatural interactions within the world. It is a compiled laboratory of different mechanics of VR in one game that is heavily modified and polished to where our natural actions are reflected realistically within the game, without having to adjust to the VR world. Node is not biased, because no one has experienced this level of realness within VR before so they are blown away and delighted at the achieved advancement. Overall, it's revolutionary none the less. Any step beyond that needed to be either a huge machine (that kinda already exists) or literally something out of science fiction where your real body sleeps but your mind is transferred into a virtual world. I don't think it's impossible, theoretically the hardest part is translating your brain into binary or whatever put it into a machine and take it back out safely. That or manipulating your brain (Honestly this seems more feasible) while you "sleep". So all in all, in programmers language: what language does it compute? I'm going too far here x'D

Just don't get vr for playstation, it sucks let me tell you. It relies on the playstation move camera, to track lights from move controllers, it is very unreliable. The move controller lights will not just reflect off reflective surfaces (so it's not just games and movies you need to hide), but white surfaces as well. Seeing light in the corner of your eye ruins immersion, but playing in a dark room only makes it worse. You also need to remove anything from the cameras view, that have similar colours as the light that is emitted from the headset or move controllers. My advice as a hardcore gamer of different genres. Pay more for a more reliable vr system on PC with a much wider range of games. If you need to try PSVR, only buy it on sale!

The only thing we didn’t predict was exactly how bad the story would be. And game companies show the best content at conferences, that should be obvious. So if the game looks different most of the time than the best 15 minutes of gameplay they thought they would present to the world to advertise their game, then hopefully you now understand why.

If they include player made servers and stuff, I could totally see this being the VR Garry's Mod. That would be so epic.

Isn't VRChat basically VR Gmod?

@noxinabox35065 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say either of them are, honestly. VRChat is a talking/ meme sim and Pavlov is pretty limited. I'm saying this could be like the Dark RP (but in VR) that made GMod so popular.

It's interesting that they reused Jimmy for Bonelab, which hands down, I love
@smol-synnc38902 жыл бұрын
yeah im rewatching this vid now and just saw that if im correct hes in the game because they started with "agenst the machine king" but then that tok to long to start so they scrapped it and then started on "dead FM" with jimmy being the main character with it still being made rn as a sequel to bonelab and boneworks (also in the vid the player model is jimmy)

man this looks huge, i sincerly regret that the VR market is so specialized and icky for now, but this will be just what is needed. i hope it can be built upon and followed through, if it delivers what was shown here i will probably buy it, even though i dont have a headset right now, just to support the devs for now. great

Icky? VR is already amazing.

nervlich instabiler koalabär what do you mean? There are tons of great be games out on steam, super hot, blades and sorcery, orbusvr, and whatever your thoughts on the morality of it charging $60 on a almost decade old game for slightly changed controls and in vr, nothing is cooler than modding Skyrim vr and looking at the massive mountains.
@spandi235 жыл бұрын
@@crazy10bears It costs so much though. I would love to have vr but it's just not affordable to most people.

WMR offers a hand here. From 150 to 500€ you got headsets of fantastic quality. Lenovo explorer was the real shit for me, cheap, ergonomic, quality components and fantastic resolution. The Samsung Oddisey+ is the culmen of WMR with better resolution than the oculus or the Vive. 2.880 X 1.600 with 1.233 ppp But if i was you I would just wait fo rthe next gen of VR. Vive 2, Oculus fgodhfhu or WMR 2.0 electric virtual bogaloo or like marketing decides to call them. Or if you find an offer of a WMR for 100/200€ go grab that bois

Whats wild is that the original player character model was Jimmy, and from March to December they changed the MC to Ford and created the entire storyline within that short amount of time. Its also wild that now Jimmy is in Bonelab and they switched Jimmy from being the Boneworks MC into being the DeadFM MC. Its actually wild how a game can change so much in such a short amount of time within its development.
